It's so disheartening to see both sides fall back to the "well I just don't trust the polling!" cope cycle after cycle.

Like yeah, there are error bars around even the best national polls. But one reference point that's impossible to ignore is that her favorability rating has been worse than Biden's by a real margin... literally up until right now, a week post-debate, when he finally fell to her level (-20% net favorability in the RCP running average).

That kind of net favorability suggests a hopelessness that isn't a given for the lesser known options. It may well be the case that those other options will enter the general with "only" a 30% chance of winning. People don't seem to grasp that the situation with both the current people on the ticket may well be even worse than that, with less room for major shifts.
