Yeah, I've got like 10 instrumentals ready to go, but recording vocals is a pain compared to everything else....especially with a baby at home lol.

  4. I hate recording vocals. If I had a dollar for all the instrumental tracks I have collecting e-dust on my computer, I’d be like a hundredaire.

  7. Will do! thanks!

  8. I'm not sure where all the musicians on here mingle the most these days, but definitely pass the compilation info along if you think there's someone who'd be interested.

    1. @KyleAtGalaxy - "Plaza Walk" - The perfect track to kick off the comp. I really liked the voicemail beginning, and then the stripped back guitar/vocal intro that builds up into the chorus with the full band. Awesome chorus melody. "You could have had it AAAAAAAAAALL" will probably be stuck in my head all day. The layered vocals at the end of the song really makes it end on a huge note. The "callback" to the phone call at the end was a great touch as well. Solid all around.

    2. @manoverboard365 - "Anhedonia" - Hearing your voice come in on this track was super nostalgic for me. It feels good putting out a new comp here. Your songs never disappoint, and this one is no exception. The guitar and piano suit each other really well. When the song opens up in the last half, it hits great! Your voice rules.

    3. bradsonemanband - "Lost in Translation" - Painted Lines is a new solo project I started a year or two ago. I was listening to a LOT of obscure 80s post punk bands, and wanted to put my own spin on the genre. I wrote a few songs, but just as instrumentals because I was overthinking my voice and the way that I sing. My voice wasn't what I wanted it to be. I wanted to sound low, dark, and British, but obviously that's not how I sing. So I sat on the songs for a while until I finally was like "I need to finish this EP. Just sing it like yourself." So I did that, and I was able to finally finish the EP a couple weeks ago. It comes out on July 10th. This song and another single ("Didn't Get Your Name") are out now.

    4. @JRGComedy - "Never Been in Love" - I love this! Such a fun 50s/60s throwback song. The chorus is so catchy. "Come on, come on!" I love it. Great drum parts. The backup vocals are perfect too.

    5. @Nick Jagger - "Stabfest" - This is so good! It's too bad we don't live in the same area. Putting your stuff and frick together into a blender to see what came out would be a lot of fun. This song is awesome!

    6. @Benjamin Lee - "Pentecostals Are a Baja Blast" - Great title haha. I really like this song. It's got some Bright Eyes vibes and that's always welcomed. The fuzzed out guitars that come in suddenly are really cool! Especially in the big ending with the haunting keyboard/strings underneath. Awesome song, as always.

    7. @Mrk_Brdshw - "Change of Pace" - Really awesome guitar playing on this song. Love me some riffs! This works really well as an instrumental, actually. There's enough going on to keep it interesting throughout. It rules.

    8. @Lindsayswm - "Pleasure Trip" - This is a really good throwback kinda song too. "I'm not your pleasure trip" is a cool line. The "friends with benefits" label always sucks, and this song has a sad/frustrated undertone to it which fits the mood perfectly.

    9. @ComedownMachine - "When We First Met" - I love the chorus effect on the guitars. This song kind of blends 60s and 80s pop together in a really cool way. Not sure if that was the intended vibe, but I really like it. Great song!

    10. bradsonemanband - "Numb" - If you've listened to these compilations over the last handful of years, you probably remember this project of mine, frick. The band became a trio rather than just my COVID solo project. This song is on our latest album. It's one of my favorites to play live because the chorus guitar riff is a lot of fun to play. The song's about social anxiety.

    11. Mrk_Brdshw - "Knife on Fire" - Riff master over here! Another killer instrumental track. The production/mix of your songs are awesome. So good!

    12. KyleAtGalaxy - "Cinema" - Great vocal melodies. The song kinda gives me NFG Coming Home vibes. Love it! The big bridge is a lot of fun.

    13. Benjamin Lee - "Our Eternal Years" - I like this song so much. The subject of the song is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. There's a song on my Painted Lines EP called "Neverlast" that's about the same thing. I really like the spoken word bridge. The guitar tone is really nice.

Life is real chaotic right now so I may not be able to do a track-by-track like normal, but just wanted to let everyone know you all killed it! Some people I don't think submitted while I ran these, but you guys make great stuff! And I think everyone who did submit that year have improved and it made me really happy to see what people have been up to. Oh, and Brad, I'm really excited about your new project! That song might be my favorite one I've heard from you.

I had this playing in the background while working this morning, everything sounded great! I wasn’t paying attention to which track was who’s, so definitely gonna have to listen again tomorrow and give everyone their flowers

psyched to be included with everyone here! gonna jam it tonight! thanks for putting this together Brad

  22. Thank you so much! I hope you dig the EP that's coming out in a few days! you'll have to let me know

Finally got a chance to sit down and listen to all of this. The quality of this compilation is so good considering it was just a bunch of random users having no idea what anyone else was submitting. Which makes me think........the next project should probably just be an actual album that we all collaborate on, right?

Tons of good songwriting here. @KyleAtGalaxy your songs are killer - I'm going to wager that you have a pretty professional setup going on? haha (also from looking at your info, you appear to be within about an hour of me btw)

@JRGComedy @Nick Jagger @ComedownMachine You guys all have some pretty cool stuff from different styles/genres/eras that I really love. I was pleasantly surprised when each of your tracks came on.

@manoverboard365 and @Benjamin Lee you guys are both really good at structuring songs. You did it in different ways, but I love the sort of "musical journey" of songs like these where it builds into something different than where it started.

@Lindsayswm that was such an interesting track. I had to listen to it a bunch of times lol. I was trying to place the genres/influences there because it was such a cool blend of like r&b, funk, some electronic....and then almost some jammy vibes with the guitar solo.

@bradsonemanband thanks for putting this together dude. It's awesome to hear your music included as well. It's funny seeing you post all around these forums because I could perfectly place like all of your songwriting influences all over those tracks. haha. Except for the little bit of slap bass, that one surprised me.

  24. Thank YOU for submitting your music! And yeah, my music taste is all over the place, as I'm sure you've noticed. That little bit of slap bass surprised ME too. Didn't know I could even do anything like that since I've never had a bass before. That was mainly influenced by one of my favorite 80s bands, Til Tuesday.

Thanks for including me @bradsonemanband and thank you for the awesome write up. Lots great stuff on here. I listened to it all this morning and the difference in style across the board is awesome. I really enjoyed it.

Thank you for the kind words @Mrk_Brdshw. It’s a pretty modest setup but it’s been a hobby of mine now for almost 20 years. I live just southwest of Sedalia. It’s cool as hell to have two members from Missouri on the comp.
