well tbf this just means he couldn’t be charged criminally for that. Technically the president cant do anything, it’s just whatever he does do won’t land him in jail. As long as it’s “official”.

But now there's no deterrent to just ignoring courts telling him he can't do something? Other than impeachment? I can't wrap my head around this ruling.

 

Pretty much, as long as an act be defined as an “official act”, the only deterrence for that act is impeachment, as presidents are now immune from criminal prosecution for “official acts”
