That feud he had with MJF (after Punk blew things up the first time) was positioning him nicely to be in the kind of role Swerve is in right now. Then he feuded with Jericho and died.

The one I'd love to figure out is why he had to lose to Danielson twice post-Punk blowup #2. If he wins one of those matches, he's not stuck down in tag team world. And Danielson went on a tear of big wins (v ZSJ, all the CC stuff, etc) until his Eddie feud, so, its not like a loss would have hurt him.

The no resolution to their tag team stuff makes sense; especially after they lost to Private party and just disappeared.

Though, there's been a bunch of people who've gotten stop/start pushes (hell, Daniel Garcia's in like his 3rd one in the last year right now)...Starks and FTR are probably the easiest to explain. Both their pushes were heavily tied to Punks booking and he flamed out. No wonder they didnt know what to do with Ricky when he was supposed to main All Out and head into a story after that that disappeared.

Which is why I can kind of empathize because a lot of it really had nothing to do with him

IIRC, he addressed that in his promo with Danielson the night before All Out, something about like "every time I'm supposed to go somewhere, I end up back where I started".

To me, the biggest miss with Starks -- and if I were him, justification for unhappiness -- was how absolutely over he was at the end of 2022, feuding with MJF for the Winter is Coming match, which ruled.

Starks lost, and MJF said something about him having to start back at the bottom, and all I could think was how cool it would've been to have a months long -- if not 2023 long -- story of Starks trying to build up wins, and being this looming threat to Max, culminating in an end of year rematch / Starks win.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Kingpin Joey Samoey as the backup, but damn -- Starks vs. Swerve for the belt would've ruled too.

Starks can get that momentum back because he can talk. He just needs to be on tv, that’s what’s frustrating. In absence of Ricky, push Danny Garcia again pleaseeee

This is the parallel I drew with Swerve. They lost their rematch at Revolution and then he disappeared for months...came back floating around the midcard until they found that feud with Hangman, and then boom, he's THE obvious guy to take the belt. And it wasnt all clean (his random part in the coffin match at All In, etc), but when the settled on his build, he went 3-4 months straight being featured and winning weekly, etc.

I liked the never before seen behind the scenes footage from the final Nitro we got in the Who Killed WCW? finale

I hope the DSOTR guys do more docuseries like this. I really really want a deep dive into the 2000's indie era. To me that is one of the most fascinating eras in wrestling that hasn't really gotten the retrospective that WCW and ECW has gotten. The story of what happens after Vince wins his war and everything that isn't WWE goes underground, and all these young guys that have nowhere to go are kind of forced to build their own version of the territories from scratch. The result of which leads to the many of the stars, legends, and style of wrestling we have now.

I'd like it, but only if they get some vaguely reliable narrators, or call their people out on BS, which has been my biggest gripe with the Death of WCW show.

The show just seemed like it wanted to defend the people most responsible for killing the company. Focused way too much on Bischoff and not enough on the terrible business decisions he made like paying a shit ton to KISS/Master P, hiring too many wrestlers that people were paid for a long time to do nothing (actually much worse than anything people accuse AEW of) and garbage booking decisions he made.
