Riot Fest 2024 Tour • Page 126

  1. I can definitely see that being a factor for some of these bands. Assuming they were in talks but turned down Riot for whatever reason, I just wish they would book something else in Chicago instead. Cartel hasn't been here at all since reuniting. Same with Further Seems Forever, Gatsby's, and probably a few others from that era that I'm forgetting now.

Yeah this is kinda why I thought Cap’n Jazz wasn’t booked. There isn’t really a good spot on the lineup for them and no other artists that would really mesh well with them

purely based on vibes and no true analytics, i was surprised how high up Poison the well got placed, and a little surprised how low cursive is, and clutch to a lesser extent.

Poison the Well is definitely having a moment the last few years since their “comeback”. All their reunion shows sold out quickly, getting booked on great one offs and with hardcore on the rise they’re finally getting what they deserve. Cursive on the other hand, they’re just trucking. Also both bands are in my top 5 most anticipated for the weekend.

Cursive is not that popular unfortunately and I say that as someone who is a fan and has gotten to see them live a couple times.

Another factor in all this is the way they positioned that NOFX stage on the poster... This was a pretty smart move for certain people (it's me, I'm the people) while also throwing a bunch of shit off. Haha. A solid 1/5 of the bands for each day are in the middle of the poster. Some should be higher and others should be significantly lower.

This means a band like Poison the Well gets "top half of the poster" treatment while they really should be toward the lower end of the middle, I think. But regardless, they're definitely having a bit of a "moment" fueled by them still being a relatively rare get... So I think their positioning above GWAR and Clutch is valid despite both being bigger on paper.

Honestly, I bet if Cursive weren't on there, Cap'n Jazz would be in their exact same spot on the poster. maybe a few spots above because local but...

Let's be real. There's no way the stage on that day isn't going to be Bright Eyes, Waxahatchee, and Cursive right?

Honestly though, the weirdest billing is how low Lamb of God/Mastadon are. That tour is playing arenas and amphitheaters. On here they’re listened under bands who play clubs. It’s wild.

Maybe Im wrong but I feel Lamb Of God could be on Rob Zombie spot, closing Roots stage if they were doing Ashes of the Wake and bring their full pyro production.

Still odd they are not playing the album at Riot.

I wonder if that listing has anything to do with their set times. If that Rob Zombie "leak" was accurate then one of those two (forget which) was going to be on the Slayer stage at like, 3pm in the afternoon (after Suicidal Tendencies and GWAR). And I'd imagine Taking back Sunday, Something Corporate, Tierra Whack, New Found Glory, and Waxahatchee will all be direct support and/or closing whatever stage they're on. Just a guess but that would explain it, I guess?

Also: Interesting that New Found Glory is apparently not doing a Catalyst set. It's not on the poster and their IG post about Riot implied they were putting together a different setlist for this show. Makes that set infinitely more appealing to me, honestly. Haha.

I think Sunday can be, on Riot
    Slayer
    Lamb of God
    Suicidal Tendencies
    Poison The Well
    The Warning

    And Roots
    Rob Zombie
    Mastodon
    Gwar
    Clutch or Brutus
    Nekrogoblikon

Rob Zombie had tweeted something that showed Slayer, Rob Zombie, Mastodon, Suicidal Tendencies, and GWAR. Which kinda looks like it would make sense for a full stage designation (plus a band or two before GWAR maybe). But that could also be wrong...

The rest of it is too hard for me to guess/assume because of how little I know about metal and other bands on the bill. Haha. Like, Clutch and Rival Sons are both pretty similar, and could work alongside most rock bands. The Warning too. Polaris is another metalcore band on the bottom half of the poster. The Armed could pretty much fit wherever too, TBH.

It's also challenging not knowing exactly how long things are going to go for. If it starts at 12 noon and goes until 11pm or so... That's 1-2 more bands per stage. If it goes later that's 2-3 more per stage.

the warning will prolly be friday based on their tour routing. going from Ohio to Chicago to new jersey makes more sense then going from new jersey to Chicago to Pittsburgh

the new jersey show is on Saturday the 21st.

I also think it’s weird that Mastoson is playing Leviathan but Lamb Of God isn’t playing Ashes Of The Wake

For certain bands, I do wonder how much of it is determined by like... How much an average "festival" crowd is going to react to a certain album.

I don't know enough about Lamb of God to say one way or the other but I'm kinda not fully shocked that NFG isn't doing Catalyst (and that they're doing S&S instead at WWYF). That's a fine album but in a festival setting I feel like it might lose a solid chunk of people in contrast to another album or a more standard "greatest hits" set.

I didnt check their tour but that routing week is all over the place, going NY, Ohio, Chicago (most likely), NJ, Pittsburgh, Detroit. Lots of back and forth in there, so yeah Chicago on Friday seems more likely

We also don’t know what the stage set up will be for sure yet. I assumed that the side by side stages would still be the mainstage. But on Q101 it sounded like Riot Mike was saying FOB would be on the Metro. And the Metro is the only stage that shows separate deluxe and deluxe+ viewing areas. It was always the main stage that had the two separate areas instead of one area that mixed them together.

That's what I got out of that interview too. It's odd that they aren't doing two stages side-by-side but maybe they'll be switching between Metro and AAA? That could work...

Earlier this week, I took a look at the RiotLand Map and, assuming the dome is in fact what the "world's largest festival bar" is meant to represent... This is (roughly) how I think the stage designations are going to pan out. If you look at the RiotLand image too, the roads/streets give some of it away too.

Here's my current best guest with the caveat that some of it is probably slightly off (like the Rockaway Beach stages could potentially just go right over the grass to the left of that lot; the Metro stage might be a bit further back and more to the right; the NOFX stage could be to the left or way to the back with the circus bullshit being on the field in front of it).

Didn't somebody also say they had "five main stages" this year? Meaning there's no real Rebel stage, perse?

Maybe it’ll be like warped tour so there’s always a stage that throws off the schedule and has bands you want to see.

That was called the "Rock" stage and in 2014 it was the bane of my Riot Fest existence. Haha.

    Surely it's nothing, right?

Or do I convince myself right now it's a TTTYG album play...

That would be one way to make sure that I am at their set instead of seeing NoFX. But I wouldn’t believe it until I see it and assume this is nothing.

Edit: I didn’t see the riot fest comment. Darn it, here I go getting my hopes up now!

I feel like that if they did an album-play, it would’ve been announced from the get-go when the lineup dropped
