Sounds exactly what I would expect from Matty in Anberlin. Not bad. I love the new eps, and I’m glad there’s more coming with Stephen singing too.

 

This is fine. No strong feelings toward it one way or the other

 

It's pretty interesting that they have it as "ft. Matty Mullins" rather than just simply Anberlin, it does kinda separate the recording vs live, just kinda interesting

 

I'm shocked at the past few responses to this song in the thread, this is fucking terrible and sounds nothing like any Anberlin I've ever cared about. Legitimately sounds like an entirely different band, a bad band

I like the music. Feels like a blend of new with a bit of NTFP.

But I can't hear this as Anberlin without Stephen's voice. Or at least without someone comparable in style. It actually breaks my heart because this sounds like one of many bands I've heard whose biggest influence is clearly Anberlin, but pale in comparison to Anberlin themselves.

Streaming algorithm has started making tags on songs odd to try and reach as many people as possible. Wouldn't read too much into that.

 

It might be juvenile to type this but…I don’t think I can bring myself to listen to the new songs. Like others have said, it’s not Anberlin without Stephen. There’s such a crystallized feeling and sound they have and, since Cities, has been such a constant in the music I first got into. Then followed me until now.

I don't hate the song. It's fine, hook is catchy, I wouldn't skip it on an album. Is it something I would seek out or revisit if it was another band? Nah. That's probably a big reason why they didn't change the name.

 

Oh man their Apple Music artist pic doesn’t have Stephen at all. I wasn’t expecting that and it feels weird.

 

matty being a part of this band will never do it for me and i know that going in.

having said that and trying my best to look past bias…i honestly don’t think this is a great song. it feels like a first draft that was never built out any further.

but also…big no on the vocals.

 

I think this is better than anything else I've heard Matty on, but even with Stephen singing it would be a fairly unremarkable Anberlin song.

 

I actually don't hate this, of course I can't help myself but try to imagine Stephen's vocals on top of everything, but if it's this iteration of Anberlin over nothing, I'll gladly take this.

 

I feel like if you’re gonna introduce a new vocalist, especially switching from one as distinct as Stephen for one as, for lack of better term, “generic” as Matty, you really wanna put your best foot forward on the instrumental at least. But like a few have said, even if Stephen was on this one it’d still be pretty unremarkable.

 

Never forget that MMF was better before Matty joined.

 

indifferent about the lyrics on the song, but it's definitely not as bad as "if character falls in the dark, does it ever really make a sound?". there's a reason i don't return to that A&B record.

 

Its a decent catchy song that at its core, i guess sounds like an Anberlin song? Unlike some here though, i enjoy Mattys vocals in MMF, so it mostly works for me, but its also pretty boring instrumentally. Not exactly a wow first single for the lineup change, but i dont hate it i guess.

Is there an EP or album coming?
