Back to School sale starts today. Might consider jumping on something this year, possibly consolidating my iPad Pro and MacBook Air into a single device.

So, I’m still waiting for the Apple Studio Display 2 but my waiting feels like it’s going to be a few more years…

Is the ASD still worth it midway through 2024?

  7. If you want an Apple branded monitor in fit and finish, one that runs the OS at imo the "right" resolution, ratio, etc., my answer is yes. I don't think there's anything else (besides the XDR, but don't pay for that) that renders the OS better.

Missed that Arc Browser is now on iPad. Still waiting for the update to finish but maybe I'll give it a real shot.

    Edit: Nevermind, this is ass.

iPhone mirroring on the new MacOS is cool, but other than development purposes, I don't understand why anyone would use this

just feels weird that this was pitched as a big feature

I've been using ARC since last July and for the first 4-5 months I loved it. However, recently it's been pretty buggy and my 1Password extension keeps bugging out as well. With the announcement of the standalone passwords app and some of the safari announcements I think I am going to go back to Apple Keychain and dive back into safari.

Is anyone using the betas and can report on stability? I usually wait for the 2nd public beta to dive in but for whatever reason I'm feeling more risky this year. lol

It's mostly stable, and I haven't experienced any overheating which wasn't the case last year. I have one app on my phone that does not work at all on iOS 18, but past that everything else seems to be okay. I've had some small issues with the Reminders widget not checking things off, but it's easy enough to go into the full app and check it off.

I haven't had any issues with MacOS

Also came in here to say that RCS is being rolled out in the US for beta users and seems to be working well for those who have access

I’ve yet to see an iOS 18 home screen layout that looks good with these new customization features.

What app is that if you don't mind me asking?

I’ve never messed with customizing the Home Screen at all. I should figure out how to do that

My 15 Pro would heat up quite a bit with B1, better with B2.

I use iCloud email, it has some issues in the mail app where my entire message list will simply disappear. No idea what htat is about but I submitted it as a bug. There's no fix I can find for it, either, just have to wait for them to re-appear. Does not affect my Macs.

Otherwise, it's been as stable as any of the 17.x releases to the public.

One little thing I love about ARC is when you're playing a video and go to a new tab it automatically pops out as a PIP. I know that you can do that on Safari, but I always have to click a PIP button rather than it doing automatically like ARC does. Does anyone know an extension that would act like ARC with PIP video?

Seems small but it might be one of the final things to get me to switch back. lol

I'm not aware of anything as of now but there is this in the beta that I haven't had work yet.

Yeah I saw the video viewer thing in the WWDC video but I couldn't tell if it would give you the option to do this automatically or if you still have to click something. It's such a little thing but so nice to click around tabs and have the video pop out automatically and then go right back in when I click back into the original tab.

    I bet it's still a user interaction.

Took the dive and installed Sequoia beta. So far so good.

One thing I meant to say is that I've had nothing but increasing issues with 1Password over the past few months. The browser extension has gotten pretty buggy for me. Really don't like the Electron app, either.

I need to voice my disappointment with the Apple Silicon phone cases. I had seen some chatter on here that the quality was poor but a few months ago bought one anyway and wanted to give it a try. Huge mistake - despite being much more expensive than many other cases, to call the quality poor is an understatement. The second you drop it and it has even the smallest of tears, the silicon starts to unravel. Most of the silicon layering is gone now and I had to throw it away. I expected a lot better from Apple directly.
