Other bands I thought were locks were the Menzingers/Lucero/NIL tour skipping Chicago this month (and the NIL not playing the Chicago leg of TGA tour)

From a traffic/crowd control perspective, that just sounds like an aggressively awful idea. Admittedly, I don’t know the area. But it inspires some anxiety, although I fully acknowledge how shitty the situation is for the team. I hope the town/stadium helps them find a new location and covers all costs (and maybe throws in some “sorry” money).

Curious - has anyone seen anything around whether or not the Reggie’s shuttle will still be a thing this year? If so, I imagine there’ll be increased interest given the public transit limitations of the new situation.

I wonder with it moving how late they will go. It seems like seat geek has a 10/11/midnight curfew depending on the day

summer smash is this weekend and they go to 11 both tonight and tomorrow and Sunday is 10.

last year north coast went to midnight Friday and Saturday and 1030 on Sunday

I can see them pushing it to midnight Friday and Saturday. Aftershows will still happen because they can capture some of the Chicago residents who won't or can't make it out to Bridgeview anymore.

I’m wondering how long they’ll wait to put out daily lineups… I feel like it’s always different each year.

Bad News: Probably not going to be able to swing it

Good News: I can still make use of shows in the area around Riot!

Woof… that’s rough. I mean, no one really jumps off the page to me like in the past but they’re still good. But that’s all personal opinion.

I think we have all talked about it to death but fests these days need something special to get folks to travel for. I think Slayer is supposed to be that, but people are skeptical that this is it, also Kerry hasn’t exactly talked glowingly about how this came about. So it’s not exactly a reunion under the best of reasons, but other than that and nofx no one is really a non touring act.

The line-up is really solid for me this year. There's a small handful of bands I've never seen or haven't seen in a long time, a few I'd be more than happy to see again despite having seen them recently, and some really strong "if nothing better is going on" acts. And a lot of the bands toward the bottom of the poster that I'd never heard of and are kinda rad.

...But I'd be lying if I said it wasn't fully that Laura Jane Grace/Catbite OpIvy set, the Lawrence Arms, Dilllinger Four, and ALL that got me to pull the trigger. One fully uniue get and three "they don't really ever tour" bands. That whole NOFX stage is fully my shit but those are the ones that made me say "fuck it, I'm going."

(And I think there's a bunch of that throughout the poster. But it's all pretty niche. Like, Public Enemy is a really solid get. But there's a very specific type of person who would be stoked about them in 2024. And... I'm one of them. LOL)

While it is true that a lot of these acts tour regularly where it’s not super unique bookings, there are still enough acts worth seeing even if they have hit everywhere post pandemic multiple times. For example, Waxahatchee is current amidst touring what is one of the best records of the year, and I’m always down to catch her this era, even though I just caught her here in April.

Having said that, booking Bright Eyes is a gamble. They were good at the Chicago Theatre show, and not great at the Salt Shed show, so hopefully we get good Bright Eyes here.

I would argue otherwise. It was a bit sloppy but Bright Eyes always has been.

It doesn't help that many are burned out on the repeated farewell tours.

It's the same thing we've talked about repeatedly and to death - there is some room for expanding the type of acts Riot Fest books (and we're seeing it this year with St Vincent, Waxahatchee, Bright Eyes, and Spoon) but otherwise it'll continue to be niche.

Yeah, there's a post on the RF subreddit asking if anyone went to Summer Smash. Lots of complaints about parking, traffic, etc.

i only had to work saturday but yah it was a nightmare in the neighborhood i work by, uber prices were insane so luckily a coworker came back and got me but a two minute drive turned into a 20 minute drive just to get out of the area.

They should have had shuttle information and crowd control management post-festival available upon announcement of the new location. I know there’s only so much that can be done about the latter, but still.

So from what I can glean: The festival itself has potential to work well logistically once you get in through the gate. But parking and getting out of the neighborhood will be a real pain.

...Glad I already purchased premium parking and have mentally prepared myself for renting a car. Even if it takes me 30-45 minutes to get out of the neighborhood and to the spot I'm staying I think that'll be worth it to not have to deal with the anxiety of waiting to see if the Uber shows up, etc.

I think people are waiting to buy parking passes to find out shuttle situations and stuff.

Obviously. But let's not act like that's not meant to be a dig via wordplay. Pretty clever wordplay too, TBH.

I mean to be fair and I mean this wholeheartedly. If you leave any arena, stadium, or amphitheater the traffic will be horrible and surged prices on ride sharing.

With that being said, driving home from Riot Fest during Mexican Independence sucked. My 25min drive always turned into 2+ hours. All the side streets were congested and the three exits I would take off 55 were closed.

Yeah, the one benefit to premium parking is you might have two options to get out, both awful but that's something considering you can go east and west.
