Agreed. There’s still a lot to shake out and be told, if ever. Riot Fest exposed themselves to this PR *again* because they literally can never not step in it. This time they’re stepping in it for being disingenuous about location, twisting the story into where they’re the good guys and the park district isn’t (the park district process was proceeding on the same timeline and they would have gotten approval) and now this. They just can’t get out of their own way.

Someone who works at SeatGeek Stadium said on the news this morning that he expects both events (the Red Stars game and Riot Fest) to both happen as planned at the stadium.

I can't see that happening at all.

If it does, riot fest should encourage their attendees to buy tickets to the game as well. Maybe even make it a VIP or deluxe VIP perk.

there’s a clear PR fix here, and that’s to show that a rising tide lifts all ships.

Sure, and coordinate for a Riot Fest night at a different Red Stars game.

Unless RF is disclosing a tenative schedule to the Red Stars, though, they shouldn't agree to anything like this because it could mean that they and the festival both end around the same time. That's a nightmare.

Just listened to the interview from yesterday with Mike on Q101. Picked up a few things. Nothing major but interesting...

The Metro stage is where Fall Out Boy will be playing. So that's the new Riot stage, I guess.

The circus ring isn't a stage (probably me and a few others reading too much into that Cokie the Clown reference). It's just a circus/haunted house. Haunted house opens at 7:15.

Apparently there's going to be an "Emo Beach Party" at night in the Rockaway Beach section?

I'm pretty excited to see this all mapped out in a way that is actually easy to make sense of.

Just do what the Mariners do and drop hot dogs from the heavens. It's carnival themed and puts asses in seats its a win win.

interesting topic on reddit about the end of night curfew. if they can now go til 11 or midnight - do you think they still start at noon and give each stage a bit more room to breathe between sets, or also push the doors opening 1-2 hours later?

also this is a 3 minute crude mapping, where
red is the seeming useable area that riot can take over both the parking lots and festival area
green are the lots they showed us
black are areas that i cant quite tell if they are functionally useful land where things could be set up + the actual stadium we dont know yet will be used by riot.

and not going to lie, i cant really see how it all (a regular 5 stage riot fest plus all this new extra stuff) fits without it being crammed especially when you have to factor in all the back stage areas us attendees ever see like artist trailers, artist catering, places for trucks to get in an out of, staff areas, riot mike has a special area, and more. very interested and a smidge nervous to see how it all fits. im probably underestimating how big the area actually is or how small the foot print some of the riot activities take up.. i aint a professional land surveyor, haha feel free to take this or make your own and add your own stuff

If it goes until midnight then there cannot be aftershows, and the Orange Line only goes until 1:30 AM so they need to have a plethora of shuttles readily available to take people back into the city.

Also not to fear monger but I do think the later the festival goes the more potential for bad shit to happen especially if you’re telling people to take the CTA around or after midnight.

Also the stadium will not be used by the festival, per Mike in the Q101 interview.

The radio show has a podcast ("Brian & Kenzie Podcast"). Apple Podcast, Overcast, or wherever you get your podcasts should probably have it. It's 15 minutes and was uploaded yeseterday on 6/12. Title starts with "EXCLUSIVE."

    Pretty quick listen!

Personally, I'd hope for music starting at 12/12:30 each day and just going a little later. Maybe allowing some bands that might get 45-minute sets to have a full hour or something. A bit of breathing room might be nice when it comes to conflicts, though!

Looking at that map, if you rotate it counter-clockwise it maps onto the image they've been showing. The way you have it situated now... The big square by the two black spots would be where the Rockaway Beach stages could go.

And maybe they'll do the bar thing in that big dome? I'm not sure exactly what that is but if you look at the Riotland "map" it kinda looks like that dome where they have the bar now.

The turf just beyond that would be where Metro is maybe? The AAA stage would probably be directly across from that one. Not sure about the fifth stage... But I really think the "Riotland" images make it all look way busier than it's actually going to be from a "things to do" perspective.

But it actually all looks pretty okay from a size perspective, though I'm honestly not sure exactly what the blueprint of it all is sizewise and I'm really unclear as to how the heck they'd do all of this with a game at the stadium that night...

I'd assume the "aftershows" would start at their usual time. They've always been a smaller alternative to the headliners more than anything. Probably nothing to worry about explicitly because of the logistics you laid out.

I would like to get some sleep each night, so I would actually prefer that it doesn’t go too much later than in the past. Maybe they will keep the gates open a little after the bands are done so people can experience the night time activities? Maybe that is when they would have that emo beach dance party or whatever.

People are going to be severely disappointed when they realize that the space they think is available for everything is reduced by 50%.

Honestly, I think it was a big misstep to release that map. Haha. It looks SO fucking crowded and is probably giving people anxiety about available space. They've had some of these features for years and the footprint looks so much bigger in that format than they are in actuality. I don't really know the space but I think it'll probably be a little better than a lot of us (including me) are thinking.

Like, that "Riot Fest Mall" is probably just the usual row of 4-6 merchants they usually have. Maybe with a few extra things (e.g., the game show is supposedly actually happening).

Agreed. Now they have even more expectations to meet. Good luck with the whole casino idea!

Maybe I’m just lame, but are people really excited about going to a casino during a music festival? It seems like there are a lot of extras that I feel are unnecessary. But I guess I am just always super focused on watching bands instead.

I mean, let's be real. That's gonna be like... Eight slot machines, six card tables, and two roulette wheels. I think this is a scenario where the Riot Fest "attitude" will work in their favor. Because most of the attendees take it all with a grain of salt.

But I can't get over how wild the graphical representation currently looks in contrast to what it's going to look like in practice. LOL

I've felt about this from the jump. I've never really cared about the festival rides, games, the haunted house or anything like that. But I'm also just super-focused on the music and if there's a time where there's a band I don't want to see? I'm getting food and relaxing. Haha.

I've definitely seen posts from people who love having that stuff as an option (even if they only use it once or twice throughout the weekend). And it is kinda cool to walk into the grounds on the first day and see what it all looks like. But I don't see myself setting foot in that casino or participating in an emo beach party or whatever.

  22. This is how I feel about all of the non-music parts of the fest. I also generally have an issue with the way gambling is just kind of everywhere now (especially around sports though that’s bit of a different thing).

At least the Ferris wheel looked cool.

i did the same thing, watched weezer play blue album, then went back to the cure, we definitely didn't know how good we had it that year, they got kicked out of humboldt after that year because they didn't pay the restoration fees to the park. but that park was HUGE, i was exhausted walking after that weekend and in 2013.

The licensing is going to be the real issue. It’s going to feel like the shitty video poker machines at a liquor store.

A slot machine that you can win 2025 passes from would be pretty fun tbh
