Not my favorite thing they’ve done, but pretty good still. Serious dooms children vibes with the art

Also noticed they’re on nuclear blast now instead of roadrunner

heres the music video, I'd love something heavier but I cant complain with this. It works really well for them.

It’s rather… unremarkable? Saying that as someone who loved Fall From Grace. Hopefully this is just a typical middle of the road lead single. I’m just happy we got anything new from them, really.

I enjoyed it but didn’t love it. Maybe it’ll grow on me with repeat listens.

I know I’m a broken record here but I REALLY hope there’s heavier stuff on the new record.

Higher Power: “We were seeking validation in what other… | Kerrang!

No pressure to write more gnarly riffs, then?
“No, not at all (laughs). I was actually like, ‘You know we’re probably going to get progressively more melodic as a band?!’ One of the guys was telling me that there were a few angry old metalheads commenting about how they didn’t like it when our video went up on the Nuclear Blast YouTube earlier today, but fuck ’em. We’re just here for a good time!” - Jimmy Wizard

Yeah; we ain’t getting a continuation of 27 Miles at all and I’m not gonna lie.. that sucks.

I want to support the band, and I’m glad they’re making music that makes them happy, but Fall From Grace/Absolute Bloom both feel half-baked so my anticipation for LP3 is waning for sure :tear:

    That interview also says:

“I will say that Absolute Bloom is probably the most melodic, pop-punk leaning song we’ve written for the record. It’ll be an eclectic collection!”

So I don’t really know what to expect, lol

Am I reading that right? They don't even have the album finished yet? Guess we're getting an extensive rollout.

lol true true. I just hope they find a nice balance between melodic and heavy instead of just going full on melodic but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It’s my understanding that they’re self-producing this record so when I read that they’re pushing to “finish them” this year - I think they meant that the demos are done and they just need to finalize/properly record them.

I just really hope that the new album has some bangers on it. Absolute Bloom and Fall From Grace are alright but pale in comparison to tracks like Seamless, Shedding Skin, Rewire, etc.

Yeah I could imagine Absolute Bloom and maybe one other track being their attempt at some more anthemic stuff. Feel like Fall From Grace is way too old to even appear on a new record now. Would definitely be bummed if they completely abandoned the post hardcore sound from their other records.

Damn, even when they go back to heavy it still sounds lackluster to me.

Those vocals are rough and the mixing on it is even worse. I’m sure it’s a throwback to the Soul Structure era but it’s not great IMO. Gil Norton’s production on 27 Miles was perfect for this band so they should be looking to replicate that if they can’t afford to go back to him now that they’re off Roadrunner.

Starting to think this will be a sophomore slump which bums me out big time given how long it’s been since 27.

Off topic, but holy shit. Roadrunner's roster has shrunk significantly.

I remember when they had twenty+ active bands on their roster and now they barely have ten. Sad to see it.

I want to love this band's current output but this song is a miss for me. I like parts of it and it could be a grower. Im glad its at least a bit heavier than the other new tracks. The Mizery/Turnstile style guitars are a guilty pleasure of mine so I'll always love that part of their sound. Vocals are weird. Jimmy has never been a proper singer afaik, but I dont think thats a good excuse for how badly off key he sounds in some of this. Pretty rough before the 2 min mark. Never been a huge fan of the NEG guy's vocals either so that doesnt help.
