My bad. I'm running on 2 hours of sleep at work after seeing Knocked Loose last night. Hahaha

  2. I doubt it, those are sorted by max sale. I'm sure the value is way down with the represses.

Is discogs valuation based on just whatever the highest price sold on the site was for that particular record? Because I would think some of these variants were inflated due to scarcity. Like I own that original pressing of Soco’s North but would imagine I would get nothing near those numbers since it was re-pressed. (I don’t use discogs)

Median sold price is one thing, but I also check to see how many are currently for sale and how much. So, say one that recently got repressed has a median price of $200, but there are a lot currently listed for sale around $100. That's a better indication of value IMO.

I will say though, it seems like older pressings still hold their value pretty well for the most part. Coheed's SSTB is one where the old pressings are still sought after even after the newer pressing is readily available. People like to collect rare things.

People are either sorting by Median or High, see the different value, so it ranges from the cheapest it got sold, to the highest on the site. The cool thing is you can also see the history of a certain thing to see when it sold for and for how much and see the trajectory of it selling on a graph.
And you'd be surprised at how many people/collectors prefer an OG pressing over a repress. Discogs lists all variants and yep there's people who go variant hunting lol.

Hunting for white whales is hard enough, I could not imagine the emotional/financial stress of going after variants

I never buy anything with the thought of how valuable it could be, it's always based on if I like the artist/album. That said, it is fun watching values on albums change as they age or are repressed. I'm always amazed by the albums I picked up on sale and then see the value skyrocket when they go out of print

I thought I wanted to variant collect Coheed for like, two minutes, then realized I'd rather just have other records than 3-5 copies of a single one.

  11. Not shocked in the slightest that they were uninformed, but at least they seem like they’re looking forward to it.

So weird that some bands do not get directly notified when their albums get pressed. I guess some people are difficult to track down?

Oh man I forgot about The Way I Fell In. The Ones That Fell Apart, Tell Me I'm Wrong, the closer with Aaron from Copeland... I need to revisit that.

No one wants the Zoetrope Olivia "GUTS" disc courtesy of Blood Records? Limited to 10K and it's selling like wildfire (went live at 1pm EST).

Only $156 CDN all in Hahaha no thanks.

I always have to chuckle when something gets re-pressed and then you see people trying to sell it based on the old medians/highs. Like, sorry my guy, if you wanted to make a big profit, you missed the window.

That's why I always sell my rare ones when I hear the rumblings. Worked pretty well so far.

Well, it’s not weird with how the rights work. But it is messed up that depending on the contracts, many see nothing from any sales.

Whatever label owns the rights can press it however they want to. If a smaller label wants to press or repress something, they can pay for the right to do so, usually for a set amount of copies. If the band has no legal say, which it seems most don’t, vinyl can be pressed with zero involvement or communication with the band.

I do not think this is good, but it is how it is right now.

John // OC now, OH forever.

A lot of that is the band not owning the publishing and nobody has to inform them or get their permission. The "Nothing Gold Can Stay" pressings that Company Ink did several years ago (and even got into Hot Topic) were done without NFG knowing anything about it.

Those Katy Perry and Good Charlotte albums have been in their clearance section all year, but every time they do a 40% off sale they're removed for some reason. The second they're part of the 40% sale I'll probably buy all 7 albums lol
