  2. I worked for Apple for 11 years, but I haven't been there since early 2023. I had to get a new MacBook and it's crazy how a year not immersed in that environment made me into an idiot while shopping for a new one lol I had to use the tools on the website to read through stuff.

I traded in my MacBook Air from April 2020 and got $365 for it which is not bad considering how slow it had become. I wound up going with the M3 MacBook Air. The difference in speed and efficiency is already so obvious. I'm excited to mess around with it a bit.

Caved and got the m4 Pro. Just the weight difference alone is astonishing

See, I think about this but then I look at the cost and say "Absolutely not".

Man I love how my M3 MacBook handles unplugging from a second screen flawlessly.

On my 2019, the screen would do a lot of weird shit, flashing black and resizing windows, as it tried to readjust to being on the laptop screen. The M3? Nothing at all. Just works fine immediately after unplugging

It's stupid how tempting it is to order a new iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard before I leave for the weekend just to put it through it's paces as if it would be any different than my M1 iPad.

I keep telling myself the M1 is fine. All you do is read comics and stream. But the temptation is real. Then I realize I probably haven’t even touched my M1 in 6 months

Did anyone get the new iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard? I'm 95% sure I am going to pick them up but waiting for WWDC next week to see what's in store for iPadOS before making the purchase.

The prices for an M4 iPad Pro are insane and, imo, are not worth it due to how held back iPadOS is. Just pick up an M2 or M1 iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard.

I can’t imagine any iPad task requiring more than M1.

Yes, the new keyboard is a game changer for me and I’m currently using the 13” as a laptop replacement. I also actually figured out how to use Stage Manager which helps

I actually picked up an 11” M4 and the new keyboard today. The keyboard is a major upgrade from the previous gen. The OLED iPad is nice as well, of course. It’s my personal computer/laptop at this point.

I got the 13” and keyboard. Keyboard and the weight made it worth it for me, but agree the power of an m1 is totally sufficient with the current iPadOS

Anyone else having trouble with speech texting? Whenever I speak a sentence, it appears like three times on the screen.

That has been tempting too. Going to wait until next week to make the final decision - but that is certainly why I have been waiting for WWDC to see if they actually make some changes to push the hardware although I'm not holding my breath that they will.

I said this before - if they were truly changing the iPad paradigm they would have held back the devices. It's going to be the same OS, same mediocre experience, but with ✨AI✨.

Mediocre experience vs what? A Mac? I feel like the user has been expecting a Mac-like experience with the iPad but Apple has never said that's their goal with the product.

It's fine that it's not their goal but to keep putting M-series processors in them means people will expect it to actually be a traditional computer. The OS doesn't take advantage of even the M1 to this day.

Most iPad buyers don't even know what these chips actually are. Maybe the very engaged Apple buyer does, but most buyers probably walk into a store, ask what the best iPad is, and leave with whatever the answer is that fits their budget.

I feel like when people say they want the iPad to "do more" or deliver a "traditional computer" experience, they really just want it to have MacOS or some very similar version of it. IMO that's why the MacBook Air exists, and it's arguably just as portable as a 13" iPad Pro + Keyboard. They already give that person a product option. Apple is not going to cannibalize the ability to sell in both the lowest and highest ends of the PC/Mac market by giving iPad a desktop OS experience, but that's what people are asking them to do.

I feel like 99% of iPad users just want one to watch movies and tv on or let their kids play games on. I am one of those people. I’d rather use a laptop for actual computer stuff

Which is totally fair and reasonable. No one needs to be buying an iPad Pro for that.

  23. Unless you want Face ID, the lightest device, and the best screen for watching movie and TV shows.

Also an M chip that Apple doesn’t take advantage of should get software updates for like 20 years. And people value longevity.

Was the trackpad on the previous iPad Magic Keyboard a glass surface?

Edit: Looks like the previous MK used a plastic trackpad
