The LLC listed as the publisher and copyright was created two months ago, and it's linked to a bunch of random releases. This is likely streaming fraud. It's a bit more brash though, they don't change the name of artists or songs, but that's the point I suppose.

This is an odd case, because it's a bad copy of the master recording. I'm guessing they pulled it from the music video on YouTube. And it's got the same play amount as the studio version. It'll probably get taken down soon, since BMG is a big enough label to shut that shit down.

Scam works like this: Someone downloads the audio from YouTube, then uploaded it via a digital distribution company with a random cover, hoping to profit off of fans thinking it's an official release. They don't have any legal right to the audio, but there's not many safeguards in place to prevent it from happening.

I've seen similar stuff happen to my brother's old band, with a company called "Sip It & Trip It Records". They uploaded hundreds of releases, primarily artist demos. Like Depeche Mode, All Time Low and Brand New. But also old releases from smaller bands that didn't make it to streaming, but existed on YouTube. As long as the artist has a Spotify page from a different release. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a program someone built to upload all that material, based on how many releases they uploaded.

It took several months for Spotify to pull down the fake release for my brother's band. To get it taken down, the copyright owner needs to prove ownership, but as we saw with this NY Times article, than can be tough: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/13/business/music-streaming-fraud-spotify.html

 

I think all three albums in the trilogy are great, I’m probably one of Daybreaks biggest fans - people just like to hate

 

I'm unsure of how to feel. Chris' actions still feel really fucked up to me

Equal Vision still posts about them on social media, and Saves is listed on the artists list on the EVR website. So yeah, it seems like they are.

 

I can’t ever un-see those insane text messages from Chris. Still listen to their older stuff on occasion but I’ll never see them live again.

 

I would be so embarrassed if I ever texted anyone like that, let alone if hundreds of people saw it. I don't even think I'd want the platform back tbh.
