Oh, yeah. You Won’t Go gets big points on subject matter for being a religious trauma banger.

Religious trauma is more what I want from my hardcore than... the whole storyline of Tear. I wish I didn't read into the lyrics to find out what it's about. Especially Return to Passion.

I love dark heavy shit like a tear in the fabric of life but I also love gruesome death metal and deathcore that touches on subjects like that a lot. I also find it pretty easy to turn off my brain to the subject matter when it comes to harsh vocalists

Yeah I listened to a lot of goofy deathcore when I was a kid, and I guess it speaks to KL that the delivery of the subject matter lands a lot harder than those bands did.

i didn't know the storyline for a tear until last week and it definitely caught me off guard. i almost never pay attention to the lyrics for heavy stuff but that's some real edgar allan poe shit.

  6. Tear wins in terms of riffage imo but this wins in terms of production and atmosphere. Can’t say which I like more but they’re definitely my two top KL releases and it’ll probably always just depend on my mood as to which I reach for over the other

This album is really good, but I'm honestly not a huge fan on the production. It's not bad, it's clearly intentional etc. etc. but it creates a different sound overall. I miss the chunky riffs being in the forefront like in A Serpents Touch / God Knows / Belleville and while there are definitely some moments like that (ending of Don't reach for me) in this album, they're in the background more and it's more of the overall sound punching together, than any particular riffs standing out. I also don't really like how the drums sound.

But the song writing is great, and I can't wait to hear some of these songs live. Sit & mourn is a great album ender.

Now that the album is out, I wonder if the set list will start to change slightly and skew more towards this album?

  8. This is my exact take. Both releases accentuate different strengths of the band and I have to imagine someday they will attempt to fuse the two sounds

Pretty much my thoughts on the album entirely. I can tell their songwriting has progressed immensely, but the production makes it harder to appreciate. Putney did a better job with their last two releases IMO.

I did find myself wanting to hear the trash can snare in Tear when I was listening earlier.

  14. The drums sound absolutely massive I just wish the guitars were a bit louder but Isaac has been clear in interviews that they were going for the clipped out Jane Doe sound but modernized so I can't really knock the choice. The stop start of the drums/bass and the clean editing, alongside the loudness of the low end frequencies makes this mix almost comparable to a lot of modern rap music.

The record sounds so fuckin mean. I didn't really realize how clean and tight the Putney records were before this.

Yeah and I’ve said it many times I love putneys style him and ballou are about as good as it gets for heavy music but the sound they went for on this album is disgusting
