That's part of it. There's people who are mad because they simply don't want to make an account because PSN has had multiple security breaches over the years and don't feel safe. I feel like a majority of those people are overreacting because they're probably signed up to tons of other platforms that have also had breaches, just less big and less reported on. Tons of emails accounts, banks, social media, steaming sites and more have all had security breaches and no one boycotts them.

The people who I think have an extremely justified response of anger are those who can't make a PSN account because they live in a country where they can't. Those people have purchased the game and have been playing since launch and now can no longer play their game because of this issue.

There's a bit of some oddities mixed in here causing problems. It was stated in some places online at launch that the game would require a PSN account to play however it was disabled and deemed optional until they could sort out some issues. Because the messaging was unclear and inconsistent in places like the steam store or the PlayStation website, I think people have a pretty justified reason to be upset. There should have been clear messaging and clear communication up until this point about what progress was being made on this being a requirement.

 

Sony just really fucked up again

 

I mean idk I’ve never heard about security breaches on PSN and I’ve had it for years. If they can’t for region specific purposes yeah that sucks. When discord wasn’t on PS I made a Xbox account so my friends could chat while playing Elden Ring. Wasn’t a big deal
