You nailed it, I think this is exactly why I've been frustrated with Midnights and now this release.

I can’t recall if Jason doesn’t like his stuff overall or if it’s just the Starting Line EP he did, but he HATES how that sounds. I bet he would not want to hear Taylor record with Yip.

Going through my second listen of album 1 right now. Title Track, Down Bad, Guilty as Sin and I Can Do it With a Broken Heart are enough to make this better than Midnights. But there's a big chunk of songs on here that just feel derivative of one another.

Still havent listened to album two. Gonna get to that later this afternoon.

my local shop said those who purchase a variant through them are being entered into a secret giveaway, courtesy of them and Taylor. they're not saying what it is, but i'm assuming a signed album or print.

haven't opened my vinyl yet, but i know it's in the deluxe CDs she sold on her website. per Discogs, however, it looks like it's in the vinyl too.

I just realized now that this is a double album, what are the chances that this exceeds 2 million copies in the first week? I'm expecting this to be the biggest first week sales since Adele's 25.

Woah! Put that in your pocket for MWE next year.

I'm pretty happy with how disc 1 works; could maybe lose a track or two. The second disc is nice, but it does feel pretty samey on my initial listens.

    I think that's what she's aiming for.

  16. A lot of people have made good points in here about the staleness and direction of her sound over the past few years (for me, Midnights is where it jumped the shark, I like folklore and evermore a LOT but stopped listening to Midnights quickly after release). I really felt that monotony and repetition of prior sounds during the fist half of this album. Fortnight is a fine opener but tracks 2-7 had me very bored. Finally Florida opened up the record and gave it a sense of purpose and then I felt like it was a decent if not incredible album from thereon out. I am saving the second album for next week, too many other things to listen to and Taylor kinda fatigued me with this one overall. Less moments of awkwardness or cringe than Midnights, but a little less memorable or interesting in the first half primarily. I mostly just miss falling head over heels for a Taylor album.

My very quick off the cuff thought is taking the two weakest from the that album and swapping in Black Dog and Aimee would be the strongest single album

  18. Also what song has the starting line reference again? Can't find it in the thread here

    Things have changed.

What's cringier than any of the lyrics is the capitalization in "thanK you aIMee" – are we still doing AIM away message shade? God.

I literally just restarted my listen and that's where I left off. I also cringed.

I think the bit is how obvious she is making it, and how she claims she is hiding it well in the song

There is not much on the second "album" that stands out to me. I could have done without it.
