I like this. Could possibly see myself loving it with time, which is kinda what happened with The Season. Definitely prefer this direction to the one they took on Movement. Empty Nest is probably my favorite here after a couple listens.

Im really glad we got movement seperate I think that informs this a bit. Thet got all of their heavy ideas out on movement so he could step back and write a proper more reserved record if you look at the two as a pair that's an incredible amount of content for one year

I still think two or three of those song riddled into NLAQ would've made the album flow better / have more ups and downs, but they both work as separate pieces.

Also, I think this has finally clicked with me and graduated from something I like to something I love. There's a real potent energy here that took me a while to tap into, but now that I got it (pun intended) I'm all about it.

To those let down what are you finding so bad about this? I don't find it as good as the season sure but it's still a good album and I'm not hearing anything that strikes me as outright bad or disappointing

room to talk, empty nest, and atx are all amazing songs. the rest also range from good to great, and i think those i'm not super sold on will grow on me. this is a really tight, cohesive project.

so far Get My Cut is the most The Season-like song, to me at least. still enjoying the rest of this a lot.

I will be okay. everything Supporter

I like this a lot, but I'm imagining people probably expected something a little bit louder and rougher like the last couple releases were. I think the singles probably got people expecting something different than the final product

Sometime after The Season came out Nathan did an interview talking about their intentions of being rougher and louder (to paraphrase) on the next record to make it more akin to their live show. Since then, 3/4 of the band was replaced and I'm sure some shit changed in Nathan's life, too, but if I'm being honest I wanted more of the said roughness and loudness, not Manchester Orchestra pt. 2.

This record isn't bad by any stretch, and I wouldn't go as far as saying I don't like it, but it's definitely not what I expected as a follow up to a top 10 record for me, and I don't anticipate it touching my top 5 at the end of the year at this point.

And to be fair, this was never going to affect me like The Season did. On top of the 3-4 years of anticipation, it was very much one of those 'right place right time' records.

After his solo record I think I decided I liked his song writing stripped down more than I did on the season even though I love that album

I don't want to be the loan person pooping on the record here, I really love ATX, Empty Nest, Room to Talk, and Wait List. Sideways is probably a tier down and then the rest is whatever. Maybe put Now You Got It on the tier with Sideways.

i'm writing a book, leave me alone.

kinda bugs me that the first two songs use "know" so much for their choruses, but that's alright. super minor nitpick.

This is better than The Season tbh

It's not just the word "know," it's the entire chorus, and it's intentional. Admitting that he doesn't know everything is a main theme of the record.

ah, interesting. i haven't spent much time focusing on the lyrics, which is strange for me, but probably because usually they seem to stand out or certain lines and parts get stuck in my head, especially for AGO. i'll have to remember this on future listens.

I kind of understand but at the same time this is why I don't pay any mind to how musicians describe their yet to be released or even recorded material. I want to go in with zero preconceived notions of what I'm about to hear other than what I've already heard from them. Musicians are hardly ever accurate in describing their own work, I know I'm not with my own stuff, so I'd rather go in knowing as little as possible so my expectations don't skew my perception
