I both agree with this but also had tons of fun in the depths regardless

It needed to have anything, really. Just a whole lot of space that's difficult to navigate.

    Fight the long defeat.

While I enjoyed the depths overall, until I started leveraging the hoverbike they just felt like a chore to navigate. Not to mention, the grind to collect enough Zonaite to fill all my batteries involved some fun combat but eventually became monotonous.

The fact that they mirror the surface geography is neat at first, but I think I would have preferred a distinct landscape down there to help it feel fresh. And maybe add a couple more beats of the story underground to justify filling in the full map.

  4. Seeing the Colegra for the first time down in the Depths was pretty cool. Overall, I grew to like the area but agree that it should have had more distinct regions.

Depths were way better than the sky, but both were huge missed opportunities

The sky islands were more fun and visually great to look at imo

I think the sky is more varied, but it all looks the same color scheme wise. I would think, “have I been to this island yet?” And I could only tell by checking the Hero’s Path.

the depths being an entire recreation of the overworld’s landmass is simultaneously incredible and the areas biggest flaw.

The sky has less rewarding events/areas and doesn't really offer much in the way of fun for me. It seemed like a huge waste.

the depths are a few mechanics and tighter area design away from being the most interesting area.

as they are they just... exist.

Generally I feel the same way about TotK as I did about AC: Origins... there's just so much of it. too much, even.

I feel like they should've doubled down in the sky and given us a few glorified dungeons in the depths instead with a clear beginning and ending.

The depths is mind-blowing when you're first discovering just how big it is, but they don't have nearly enough stuff in them to make them as fun as they should be

The sky islands are all really fun, but my biggest complaint is that there's not enough of them. I would have sacrificed the whole depths for like 10x more unique sky islands. More sky paths like with the Rito/Zora questlines would be the best

One big thing that I think knocks it down compared to BOTW is that for so many of the shrines, the challenge is just finding the shrine, and then it's a free gift inside. I want more of a challenge, dammit

I think Tears topples Breath easily. Everything I found frustrating or shallow about that game they improved upon in Tears, but I completely agree with you on the fact that Sky was so damn small.

I am still very firmly Breath -> Tears but, its hardly worth even debating. Both are just so, so, so good.

No snark, why do people like Breath more?

I recently changed my fav from Tears to Breath. I based this stance on how much replay value I had with each. I played BOTW for almost two years straight. I have already had months long gaps of Tears. There is much they fixed in Tears, so I’m not set in stone, but that’s where I am at, at this time.

I never got that far in botw so tears was my first time in a lot of these places and it’s such a special game I absolutely adore it and would probably say it’s a 10. I just didn’t make it to the end of the game lol

Tears being a 10 is undisputed, we're really arguing whether it's an 11 lol

    it is

I enjoy BOTW more simply because it has a sense of awe that TOTK didn’t recapture for me. There are definitely things I prefer in TOTK like the story, the dungeons, etc., but exploring that version of Hyrule for the first time in BOTW had highs that TOTK never reached.

    Yep. This.

I love the Ascend ability, but the feeling of seeing a mountain for the first time and figuring out the best path to climb it to find something cool on top just isn’t really replicated in Tears.

Hmm this is all very interesting. I liked ascend more because it made me feel like the game was valuing my time more. I didn't have to spend it all climbing and I could zip zop all the way around the world and the mountains, but I completely understand and value the exploration and the feeling of accomplishment people might get from the challenge of climbing something and finding something new

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I still greatly prefer TOTK and felt it was way more interesting and loved the abilities, and I enjoyed the story more too.

I am curious to see what direction they go in next

Hopefully we don’t have to wait 6 years, but I’m ready for whatever they throw at me. 2D, over the top, open world, anything.
