can’t decide if Tarot looks almost like an art film or yet another bullshit movie to be forgotten in less than a year’s time

  2. I totally get that ha. The monologue-y dialog just added to the eeriness for me. Each time I thought I knew what was happening, the movie would plant seeds of doubt, so I enjoyed the uneasy tension and uncertainty of that first hour.

  3. Definitely more like the latter imo, but it also looks fun. Very 2000s teen-horror vibes.

Man, April Fool’s Day was so damn boring but the ending is great

  5. Ha, I love April Fool's Day. Makes zero sense, but the pure insanity of it all is very fun

I just needed more, idk. I'm down for a slow burn, but it felt like nothing happened until an hour and 15 minutes into the movie lol

  8. There's an April Fools movie?

    *googles*

    The one from 1986?

April Fool's has always loomed large for me because in like 3rd grade our really conservative teacher told us about this weird movie she watched over the weekend and then described to us in detail the plot. I only watched it for the first time a couple years ago and it was nothing like my baby brain imagined. I liked it quite a bit though.

I may rewatch it in the future. Maybe knowing what I know now will make it a more fun experience

  13. So anyway, a dude asked for my number. When I was about to get on an escalator. To the movie theater. How dense do you have to be to hit on someone who's in a hurry. I guess he couldn't have known I'm an ace trans lesbian, but like, how am I supposed to know he's not a transphobe? Not only was it uncomfortable, I was also already trying to not miss any trailers. I didn't bother responding, what if my voice reveals I'm trans and he reacts badly? I didn't have time to find out so I practically ran up those moving steps not looking back. I'm probably making this sound more dramatic than it was, but I was pretty taken aback at the time! At least the girl who scanned my ticket said my skirt was cute.

  14. I'm not gonna lie. I fuck with Night Swim, lol. It's a great (and honestly kind of unique) premise a'la Death Bed but played almost completely seriously, with an alright script and a really great cast. It's well-shot, too. Its reach definitely exceeds its grasp a bit -- there's some connective tissue missing with the occasional goofy dialogue or line read, and one of the digital pool ghouls in particular looks pretty bad -- but I'm honestly kind of shocked at the reception this one's received. Somehow Imaginary edged it out critically even though the only thing that movie has on this one is the third act set piece and practical creature effects; otherwise, it's a total mess. I'd never anticipate this one making year-end lists or actually scaring anyone under the age of like 15, but it's sufficiently creepy and very watchable. I enjoyed it!

Saw Late Night with the Devil last night. Solid performance by David but the movie’s execution was pretty mediocre. Surprised by the outright love it’s getting. I didn’t find it scary and the sections where it jumped to the commercial breaks took me out of it.

Related to expectations, while not high, I am continuing to see positive stuff initially for The First Omen. Will probably see it this week after revisiting the og

Local bar that now does a monthly movie club has put up a poll for the next movie they are gonna show. The options are But I'm A Cheerleader, Bad Lieutenant, Possession, and Jawbreaker haha. I've only seen Possession personally, but anyone else have any thoughts on the others?

Bad Lieutenant is great but the Nic Cage one is even better.

But I’m a cheerleader and Posession are both really good, Jawbreaker is fun too and I haven’t seen the fourth one. Posession is the only real horror movie tho.
