Yeah it’s genuinely insane they don’t just work out a swap now. This is going to be a very uncomfortable season for Lewis and Carlos.

I find that take interesting. I’ve never felt it had more or less commercials than any other sport. Especially since it’s the only major sport (outside soccer) that continues showing live play alongside commercials, tho no idea if they manage that bc they squeeze in more commercials or if it’s the same amount of commercials as it otherwise would be. Between that and the commentators stopping for a few minutes so we can listen to the cars I think nascar has one of the better broadcasting experiences.

 

There’s way too many commercials, and the timing of them is usually terrible

Fox commentating got better with Harvick in the booth but Bowyer is genuinely a detriment to the sport

SVG got the full superspeedway experience last night, and still somehow finished 12th. Made an insane save too. Gonna be fun watching his progression over this season.

About 33 laps totally missed without any side by side. While other sports miss 0% of any actual action. Just sucks.

 

SVG 3rd last night. It’s so fun to see him learn and how happy he is driving the xfinity car. Can’t wait to see him on a traditional oval next week.

 

F1 2024 video game is out may 28th

 

Sooooo excited for tomorrow's WEC race at Qatar; looking like it should take around 9 and 1/2 hours. Such an incredible assortment of cars. I bought the $50 media package as well, so full live streams of every qualifying and race this season, including the 24 Hours of LeMans, onboards, live timing, etc. Jenson Button, Daniil Kvyat, Valentino Rossi, among others, as big names racing this season

 

And who is 1-2 in Bahrain right now? Of course

 

New year same results. This is so boring. The new regulation changes can’t come soon enough.

 

What trash this season is going to be

 

What an amazing end of the WEC race from Qatar though; Peugeot was in 2nd for like 4 hours, and then with 2 laps to go, goes slow on track and ends up barely finishing the race.

 

I haven't been this disinterested in F1 since I started watching a decade ago. I'm planning on reading results before watching a race and only throwing it on if things look interesting.

 

With the F1, the only crumb of comfort is that races at tracks used for testing are normally pretty drab.

It was really concerning just how dominant the Red Bulls looked though. It seemed like the Mercs and the Ferraris could manage a few laps of equal pace, but then would shred their tyres or otherwise overheat. The Red Bulls (really annoys me that I can't call them RBs now) just seemed to be able to cruise at blistering pace.

Concerning how many gremlins both Merc and Ferrari had between them too, particularly when you consider that their cars are evolutions and the Red Bull is basically a new concept. If it turns out they've found a way to raise the ceiling again, they could turn up with summer updates which just blow everyone away.

I think this season looks like it might be more interesting off track than on it. Fair bit of drama brewing up already. How many races until Alpine sack everyone again? Yuki behaved like an absolute clown. Jos Verstappen calling for Horner to leave. Sainz is clearly out for himself (that could be fun to watch, if nothing else) and who knows how the Merc/Lewis swansong will go.

How can a car company of Renault's size be this dysfunctional regarding their F1 program? The only info I've heard in the last year regarding Alpine is how its a very top-heavy structure, especially around how decisions are made, mostly by Renault corporate, versus their racing division

 

They seem to fundamentally ignore that it takes years of concerted efforts to make progress. It was rumoured at the time that Otmar went that he said it was a 3 year programme minimum to get where they wanted it to be and they wanted it faster than that. I think it was also rumoured that they don't really spend enough to bridge the gap to the top teams.

That team basically went bust under Genie and I don't know that Renault ever spent the money necessary to catch up with the likes of Ferrari, Merc and Red Bull. I think the numbers being thrown around at the time was that the bigger 3 were spending £350-400m a year at the time, but Renault were doing about £250m after the team had been in decline prior to that.

Also, not sure how well the French engine side gets on with the UK race team.
