Yeah NY has laws that prevent limiting resale which, candidly, has sometimes helped me as I can buy with fan protection through the various 3rd parties for really in demand stuff.

Sounds like Saosin are in the studio right now with Cove and are done with Anthony Green

I think someone mentioned in the Furnace Fest thread that they are doing a set there with Cove, probably an anniversary for their self titled.

On a personal note, I saw them 2-3 months ago and Anthony was super fucked up. He messed up like 90% of the songs and it was all very awkward, even the rest of the band joked that they will probably never be back to that city after this. I love him but it was very sad.

I’m not a huge fan but the group I was with last fall thought he sounded and looked awful. So that’s in line

  6. I’m not reading an article about ticket prices by live nation

That article is just LN propaganda. It’s missing the part where they created flexible pricing strategies post Covid so they can artificially inflate prices and scalp their own tickets.

And the part where they “the corporation” end up with more money than the venues, the crew, the bands etc. I get in a post Covid world the bands needed to earn more, but literally everything got jacked way up and we the consumers just end up paying out the ass. It’s not limited to touring but Covid changed the world and everyone wants to make more/same profits than before.

Anthony has had a heroin issue for a long time. So sad that it’s still an issue for him

I’ve worked with Live Nation before as part of my industry (I work in advertising). Multiple people I’ve talked to confirm the majority of their revenue comes from sponsorships, concessions, parking, etc. Ticketing goes to the act playing so any dynamic pricing/platinum also goes to the artist

I highly doubt that regardless of whatever you’ve been told and I’d tend to believe your sources are biased considering your background.

    Things have changed.

Touring is undoubtedly expensive and I understand that artists use platinum tickets to, in some cases, defray and recoup these costs. But people need to be honest and transparent about it, because currently the optics are not great in terms of just raking fans over the coals. That and some of the platinum prices are OBSCENE - like over $1,000 for a single ticket in the platinum category.

I’m highly skeptical that TM/LN would create the dynamic pricing just to help artists make more money. That makes absolutely no sense given their history of making as much money as possible off of the events they produce and the BS fees they have created to exploit consumers.

It also tracks that the dude that calls concerts “luxury experiences” to justify ridiculous ticket prices has worked with LN in the past lol

Possibly but I'm not sure what the motivation would be to mask that in terms of casual business conversations. Every time there's any piece of press written about what drives ticket prices, they all point back to the act's guarantee.

Yeah I think that's been the huge blunder in terms of this "platinum/premium" pricing thing. It's essentially surge pricing which, while still obnoxious, more accurately defines it. Platinum/Premium makes it sound like it's some sort of VIP experience that it's not. The lack of transparency about prices BEFORE on sales is also something that needs to be remedied so people can be better prepared.

    Things have changed.

Buying tickets has become a fan-unfriendly experience which is the exact opposite of what artists and promoters should want. From a lack of upfront, published ticket ranges to huge swaths of seats blocked off for credit card holders, VIP packages and platinum. Dynamic pricing. Upcharges to sit on the aisle. Rigged queues. Shitty website infrastructure. It leaves fans pissed off almost every time unless you're attending a smaller show at a club.

But capitalism wins out every time.

i get that it is rich to read live nation defend the system that ticketmaster built and downplay their power, but the core of the article is correct and should be read at the very least to know what you are raging against.

the thing people need to understand is ticketmaster's clients are venues/promoters, not ticket buyers. and venues/promoters ultimately answer to the artist (team). platinum, resale, etc are services they are offer, not control, nor do they profit off of beyond fees. promoters dont even get anything from platinum, it all goes to the artist. not only do artists set the ticket prices, they set what platinum gets capped at. many also monitor secondary and will adjust prices accordingly to undercut.
