Alcest - Les Chants de l’Aurore (June 21, 2024)

Super pumped, one of my favorite bands I've never seen live, hoping for a headlining North America tour at some point.

 

Kodama is a classic, I'll always check out their new stuff.

Single is definitely the softer side of their sound, more akin to the Shelter era. Gotta go brush up on my French and look at the lyrics lol

They announced European tour dates for the Fall too

 

I'm liking this single so far. Might try and do a discography run and ranking before and after this new album comes out.

this record's (and particularly that last song's) themes mean a lot to me as I've felt alone navigating some of my mystical experiences

Forgot this was out today, checking out now.

They've always had this vibe to some degree, but the uplifting tone here is really working for me. I'm not well versed in post-blackgaze (or blackgaze at all, if this even falls into a category with those bands anymore) but parts of this instrumentally really remind me of what Caspian does, or what Prawn was doing on Kingfisher. Could just be my limited frame of reference, but I really like the post-rock/metal stuff happening here.

 

Only listened once but this was really good. First track was a standout. Loved the drumming in the back half of that song.

 

This ended up coming out the same day my second daughter was born, got to listen to it early in the am with the sunrise, before the birth and everything got crazy. It was perfect, put me exactly in the right mindset lol
