there was a similar study going around a few months ago that came to about the same conclusion, but that one didn't differentiate between types of use, was very vague in its methodology, and actually even slanted the results in presenting the data (reddit loved it though). the study discussed here (link) is a lot better, although i'd be interested in continuing to increase the nuance and scope. there is differentiation of use (aggressive, pornographic, quoting, self-identifying, it looks like), and the choice of the two slurs is built on earlier research.

and, to be honest, while these results are surprising, they don't detract from the fact that whoever the speaker is, this language is always gendered against women. certainly we know already that women can behave or speak misogynistically, even though it's not in their "best interests" - what's more important is that the target is always the same, either directly or by use of gendered language - women.

edit: that said, i fucking hate that headline. it's the same clickbait shit you'd expect with an predominately male internet population.

I am not looking forward to thanksgiving in the sense that me and my mom always get into a fight about gender roles. every year she expects the women to help and the men get to sit around and do nothing. last year I made a deal that I didn't mind helping, but the men had to clean up. She agreed. when it came time to clean up she yelled at me for being rude and not cleaning, saying the guys were doing it all. well duh that was the deal. if the women do all the cooking it's the least the guys can do to clean it up. She praised the men for doing the least and rinsing off a few plates but I get yelled at and expected to cook and clean. she doesn't get it tho. she thinks I'm trying to get out of helping. it's not the helping I mind, it's why I'm expected to help and why others arent.

 

Same in my house. It was always "the kids get to clean up" which meant my brothers would sit on their asses while I (now joined by their wives/girlfriends) did everything and got yelled at if I didn't.

 

Kinda related it feels so awkward when social gatherings like that are segregated by gender with the men talking in one room and the women talking together in another, like come on it's 2016 are we still doing this

 

I think my mom has this traditional idea in her head where the women cook and "bond" and the men sit around and watch TV and "bond" and it's just stupid. let's all help and all bond together if we must bond at all?
