when a company is worth 3 trillion dollars and still finds an excuse to lay off this many people it really makes you wonder if there’s anything that can ever be done about this

 

yeah if it wasn’t apparent before here you go. next gen Xbox will not have a disc drive (allegedly lol) and in the next year or two you will not be able to buy physical Xbox titles in retail stores

 

Looks like a bit over 800 have been let go from ABK so far. We’ll see what happens with the west coast coming online.

Recently there was that conversation elsewhere on the site where someone asked "disc drive or digital?" about buying a new PS5 without having owned any PS4 or older games, and stuff like this is exactly what I meant when I said that we can feel passionately about not wanting to go fully digital but we really don't have much of a choice in the matter (outside of just not buying things)

I for one am happy they are embracing digital only and in this group I know that is not the popular opinion.

 

I'm pretty undecided. On one hand I like the option of physical, but also that's a lot of plastic and it's not like I'm purchasing physical much anyway. Like as much as I say I like the option, how often am I really using that option?

 

I don't like being forced to only purchase one way. The bigger issue is that many games are more or less unplayable when played a disc because they need some massive day 1 patch or online bullshit.

Looks like the D4 team was impacted and nearly all of Blizzards customer support teams and GMs were let go which is incredibly unfortunate because they were so good and were known by name in the WoW community (for better or for worse but usually better) and in my experience always helpful.

It doesn’t look like any WoW leads or devs were impacted but that was expected because Xbox does not have a single fucking employee suited to work on an MMO or lead one

 

Lack of choice and ownership. More jobs will be lost due to the transition of all digital. We’re in for an awful future.
