There's a lot of great stuff musically on here but I really don't like the vocal delivery to the extent that I probably won't come back to it much, if at all. It's a shame because I really liked their first record.

I like their voice, I just don't like how they tend to use it on this album. I'm happy other people love it though and they must enjoy singing that way, good for them.

Wasn't crazy on the last one but this thread has persuaded me to give this a go.

I do like the album but it gives me the distinct feeling their best work is still ahead of them.

  10. That's the thing - when I really started to get into this I was like 'how the fuck are they gonna top this?' They'll figure it out.

“motions” has some late period Strokes energy.

Never listened to them but I'm hooked. A bit of a slow burn for me bit it keeps getting better.

I couldn't get into the first album at all. Tried many times. Don't think I even finished it which is really rare for me.
This new one I like better, it's a bit like Foxing trying to make In Rainbows in some parts. Hoping it continues to grow on me. Certainly impressive just unsure at this point if it will create an emotional connection for me the way that the band clearly has for so many others.

You tried many times to get into a record you never finished?

Correct. A bunch of times started the album and changed to something else after half an hour. Or got busy, paused, and had no desire to pick back up from where I left it.

I’ve done this many times, especially for records that feel like they’d work better in a new time/context. Happens a lot when year end lists come out and I revisit albums

honestly? the eclecticism and raw power of a Dan Flashes shirt is a fitting analogy

I regret to inform you all that I have again failed to understand this band. After a whole bunch of listens I couldn't Hum a single melody or recite a single passage of lyrics.

Some amazing musicianship and the vocals are actually fine in my book. The songs themselves just don't connect for me.

Commatose is the best of the bunch for sure.

Finally checked this out. I didn't "get" it at first but it's growing.

I think there are very few times I'm going to listen to this in full in the future, purely because of length, but I've definitely grown to enjoy good chunks of this.

Motions, rare animal, puppy, the killer, and the CIA are my favourites at the moment.
