Anyone else think "Pass the Baby" might be about the risk of handing your music (i.e.: your creation) to the industry to take care of? Like, it's from the perspective of a manager or record exec giving (devious) advice to a budding artist?

    "The best decision made
Was let me take the stage
    Do what I say exactly
    Remember you called me
There's something we can count on
    These boys like swinging low
    If it gets too ugly
    Well, that's our industry
    We feed and feed"

That's what I get from it at least...it's a commentary on an artists integrity in a field that's become a cut throat business.
In that case it fits the album context just fine.

Always late to the convo nowadays but:

    1. This album is pretty special
    2. Its best moments feel like a sequel to Chase This Light
    3. It's the best-produced album of their career
    4. I'm feeling more and more comfortable calling them outright the best emo/scene/pop-punk/whatever band of all time

This is completely and totally different than how I took the lyrics. I'll have to listen again with this reading in mind.

    This was my thought today

Also, call me crazy but Through reminds me of early Weezer. Or maybe Man Overboard. Damn this is like my fourth edit.

I love that they're still learning new tricks. I've never heard him do anything like the little vocal hammer-on on the last "anymore" at the end of the first chorus of "The end Is Beautiful" and it sounds amazing

Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

vocal hammer-on is a great way to put it. the vocal hammer-ons on "anymore" in the second and last choruses are what ruin that song for me unfortunately. I think it's overused and it gets on my nerves. I'm glad you like it though, I wish I did.

That little vocal trill MAKES the song! haha

Yeah, that solo in Through would fit beautifully on The Blue Album or Pinkerton

Maybe you either love it or hate it. I really, really wish I loved it. There's nothing I can do to shut off that little thing in my brain that tells me to get annoyed by that trill. So annoying because having a song that I skip every time really brings down my estimations of the album as a whole. Nothing I can do about it. I've tried to pay attention more to the lyrics to kind of force myself that the way he sings it is necessary for the meaning of the song, and maybe it is, but I'm struggling to completely find peace with it just yet.

Going to get hate for that opinion I know but I really, really don't want to dislike this song, honestly. I wish I could enjoy it as much as I know that I should, because it's a beautifully-written song.

Hah the best part is everyone I see talking about it thinks it's the sequel to their favorite JEW album. The p4k review says it's Bleed American Pt. II. I think it's Chase This Light redux. Thought I saw you post somewhere that it reminded you of Futures (or maybe it was someone else who love Futures). Just a cool phenomenon.

no disrespect but i dont see how, in any universe, this is similar to ctl, other than the first song. i guess that just proves your point though doesnt it lol.

I think it sounds more like a follow-up to "Futures" than "Chase This Light" does.. if that makes sense

The warmth of the arrangements and gleaming production, just for starters. It doesn't have the ragged edges of Invented's production or the unpolished thing Damaged was doing.

Plus a few of the songs I could slot right into CTL.

That's fair enough. I think it sounds like a mix between Invented and Stay on My Side Tonight.

It's nowhere near as bouncy or happy/shiny as Chase This Light was. Much heavier even in the feel of the production.

Agreed. CTL is the album I put on when I'm driving out here in Arizona and it's sunny and I want to feel good.

And I really, really love CTL, more than the average Jimmy fan.

But IB has a completely different vibe, most songs have that darker undertone feels to it, with the exception of the opener and You Are Free.

I actually feel like the entirety of the rest of the album does this exact thing much more so than that one part at the end of 'Pass The Baby'. The whole album is packed with moments that show off what stellar musicians these guys are. I'm thinking it boils down to me just really not liking the kind of music that kicks in at the end of the song. It strikes me personally as very generic sounding late 90's hard rock, like the kind of music the original Playstation Road Rash game was loaded with.

Without knowing much about album production at all, to me the production on this album definitely sounds very clear and pristine, which reminds me of Chase This Light versus the somewhat muddy and flat production of Damage. That being said however, I can also definitely agree that the production and overall feel of Integrity Blues is heavier and less poppy than CTL.

At times this has the radio sheen of CTL but at other times it has the space and depth of futures
