Well he writes almost everything, so wouldn't he be by default?

It's a little more glaring when his jump from backup singer to "co-lead" made the band worse

I don't agree with this, but you do you.

Toxicity is their Masterpiece, absolutely, but I LOVE a lot of the songs off Hypnotize/Mezmerize. I honestly listen to those two albums the most in recent years (but there are some filler on those records for sure).

Anyways, wish Damon would swallow his pride and work with Serj so we could get a new SOAD record.

They could have easily made one EXCELLENT record out of Mezmerize/Hypnotize.

But instead they made two. I don't see any problems here.

They're great albums don't get me wrong but the Daron led songs and even his specific lines are generally the cringiest.

The thirty year old man having the revelation that a British cigarette is also a slur?

What song is this in reference to? I see the line in Lost In Hollywood, but I don't think it's being used in the way you're implying.

you don't put that word and "maggots" in close proximity over and over unless you're being, uh, "cheeky" at minimum

I'm only saying I don't believe the line was written with any homophobic intent in mind. The line I believe is referring to talent agents.

  12. Unfortunately, straight people using that word is homophobic regardless of who it's referring to

We're talking about the British context though. A cigarette.

Actually, I haven't thought about this before, but has there been any movement in the UK to not use that slang for a cigarette anymore considering what it's become?

I love Mezmerize but couldn’t get into Hypnotize

    That sounds about right tbh.

Between that and Damon wanting more creative control - we’re never getting a new record sadly.

Honestly, at this point, they could put out an album all on their own and take 100% of the profits from it and play like 12 shows a year and be completely fine, couldn’t they? I am not super knowledgeable on the music industry but it feels like they are such a big name and their comeback album would be such a huge deal that they could probably self fund everything, not worry about paying anything to a label, and still make absolute bank.

Idk maybe it’s just me but feels like some sort of agreement should be able to be hammered out there. It’s 2024, it feels like a grueling two year touring schedule wouldn’t be needed to hype up an album anymore haha.

I would probably say that their time to release a new album has already passed to some degree. It's been 20 years nearly and Serj is pushing 60.

I think at this point neither party is really willing to continue in the way the other wants it. Serj enjoys the freedom his solo career offers him and the others are clearly not willing to seriously continue without Serj. It's an unfortunate situation, but I get it.

  21. I also don't really want a new album if they don't want to make a new album

I was about to question this until I looked it up. I'm shocked Hypnotize/Mesmerize was/were released in 2005! I feel so old now, haha.

IDK it seems like 2 of them would be very down to make a new album, a 3rd would like to make a new album as long as he has creative control over the song writing, and the 4th wouldn't mind making a new album if he had some creative control too and didn't have to do a grueling tour lol.

Of course it could all be BS and they're just coming up with excuses their fans would understand rather than "We just don't want to do it". But it feels like there's desires there, they're just not outweighing the politics and logistics of the band.
