They confirmed in the substack today that they are in the studio for LP9. Mentions that "House Parties" is on the album and mentions a song called "Surprise!" Taylor, Griffin, and Mike Viola all co-producers.

 

also mentioned they’re recording most of the songs as a duo with trevor occasionally popping on for random instruments

i like the band as a band, so this will be an interesting one if it does end up truly just being taylor on everything and griffin drumming, but we’ll see

 

Losing Lee and Wylie as band members in the same year is really tough. Feels like they need to recalibrate and find some new people who fit their vibe.

 

right. that’s what i hoped would happen. but i wouldn’t be surprised by the sound of things if they just find touring members going forward and the “band” is just the brothers.

 

Yeah, that would be a huge bummer, IMO.

I ping-pong around a lot with my rankings on this band. I think all eight records are stellar, and even my least favorites have some of my all-time favorite Dawes songs.

 

i really love doomscroller though it feels like its from a completely different band and i don't expect them to continue in that direction

 

I really like it and dig the directions they were exploring there. But it is definitely the one I reach for the least. Feels to me like less of a "songs" record and more of a "vibes" record, which I enjoy but don't have the same connection to that I do with most of their stuff.

Yeah they've been talking about LP9 on there for a little while. I've enjoyed the two songs they've shared so far.
