The fact that we never have to ask that question regarding All Time Low, Fall Out Boy, Morrissey, Pierce the Veil, A Day To Remember, Arcade Fire, The Front Bottoms, Rancid, Lizzo, Aerosmith, New Found Glory, Kanye West, Pantera, No Pressure, Call Me Karizma, Say Anything etc. should be the answer to that question.

people still work with problematic artists all the time if they’re friends or if they think it’ll make them more money/a bigger audience.

Brand New’s controversy isn’t the most recent one on this list. It’s not the most severe one. They’re not the most high profile or low profile name here either.

Does that make the venues and promoters and openers spineless sellouts for working with someone they shouldn’t? Yes, but it’s already happening. Does it make us hypocrites for constantly dunking on a band that’s been gone for 7 years when there’s similar or worse offenders who still have their platforms? Yes.

We act like this is some unique case when really it’s an everyday occurrence that we just ignore.

Saw From Autumn To Ashes last night, first time since the 2015 first tour back. They were unbelievable. Having the singer from Gods Eyes doing Ben’s parts was amazing. He sounded just like him.

Yea I didn’t hear them specifically but there is gonna be like 8 different openers or slots being offered that as of when the tour was announced weren’t finalized. I hope they get on there. Heard One Step Closer were in the mix too.

I feel like Scowl imparticular could really blow up from a slot like that. It’s the right kind of fan base and they are the right kind of something different. Spaced is another band that I feel like are kinda flying under the radar that if they got the right opportunity could be huge if they just got in front of certain people.

 

Fuck. That's another band that I feel like never leaves the east coast that I would love to see just do a little midwest jaunt.

 

I'm not calling you out for this comment but I feel like we on this board maybe create an overestimate of money that bands within this scene make (not including FOB, MCR, those ones).

It seems even guys in bands that this site love, such as State Champs, do have other jobs too. The whole landscape has changed. I don't think anyone in the rock scene besides those mentioned above are getting Top 40 money to play festivals.

Just my thoughts. I'd be curious to see actual numbers.

 

You can't compare Brand New with State Champs. Prior to their breakup they had a #1 album and sold out Madison Square Garden.
If they reunited and were getting offers for big festivals, I'd imagine their quote would be at least 300k.

For context, I'm pretty sure bands like Taking Back Sunday and Dashboard Confessional have 150k fees.

 

Also do they really have “other jobs”? Sure half of them are involved in random
Stuff like clothing brands but I don’t think they have other jobs like you’re thinking.
