Ha, I read yours differently than his. He said he wanted it to repeat one last time at the end. You said you wanted it to be longer each time through. Do you think that they should have repeated the chorus each time, or do you just wish Jim had written a few extra lines for the chorus?

My only issue with Through is that I wish the bridge wasn't just the guitar playing out the chorus nearly note-by-note. I'm nitpicking though because I do like the song.

I'm glad this is out there because my only problem with the album version is that I couldn't quite grasp the tempo and melody. I mean, I hear it obviously, but I couldn't really keep pace with it for some reason, if that makes sense. The guitar spells out the beats a bit more and gives it a sense of flow that I don't think the strings were able to do for me. Just me though.

Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

Ah. Well I feel like the chorus could be longer but that could be interpreted as repeating it line-for-line, or changing up the lyrics or melody a bit for an added "second part" of the chorus. So yeah maybe I'm thinking a little differently in that I wish the chorus lasted longer, not necessarily just repeated. But either way it would achieve a similar thing. I just feel like I want more of the chorus, because it's a good chorus and I'm never quite ready to leave it when it ends, if that makes sense.

Makes a lot of sense. I already knew the song from his live acoustic performances, so I already had the map in my head of where the beats are, so I guess my mind naturally filled that information in when I listened to the album version. But if my first time hearing it was on the album... I could imagine potentially being a bit disorientated or not be able to find the rhythm in it.

Unfortunately I mostly agree with Fran.182 about Pass The Baby - I'm not as blown away by it as most other people seem to be. If I had to pick one weaker track I think I'd have to go with this one, even though it's still a really good song. I think I respect the cool thing they did with it and what they were going for more than I actually enjoy the whole thing as a song. My favorite part musically would be the middle third, after the sparse, electronic beginning but before the crazy guitars kick in.

It might grow on me as a get more of a chance to listen to the album as a whole more.

Yeah, it makes sense. I don't personally agree and I'm glad it's not repeated more. I feel like it serves is purpose well and I think the song is effective largely because of how it flashes back and forth between the quieter verses and the hard-hitting chorus. I wouldn't necessarily mind if it were a bit longer I guess, but it never struck me as "not enough chorus."

Pretty Grids reminds me a lot of Gotta Be Somebody's Blues. It serves as a perfect change of pace track.

I feel like You Are Free > Integrity Blues > Pol Roger would have been the perfect way to end the album. Bring Through forward a bit. The steep drop in energy from Through to Integrity Blues doesn't work quite as well as if it was eased in with You Are Free, I think. Though I haven't personally tried moving it around and seeing if it's better, and to be honest I don't think I want to either because the album is what it is and it's best to enjoy it for that.

Ever since streaming became a thing, I never listen to/download leaks. It's kind of cool to have excitement back when it comes to album releases. While I'm not physically going out to a brick and mortar store anymore, there's still something about being patient for the official release date and going to hit play when my favorite bands release new music. Glad I could somewhat recover that feeling with where technology has taken us. Anyway, first listen and I'm in love.

Completely agree. If you were writing a review of "sure and certain" I could see. That was my biggest surprise of my first listen is just how different it is. Even after reading everyone's opinions for the last month, "pretty grids", "pass the baby", and the title track still totally threw me for a loop. In a good way of course.

Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

When I saw that Chase This Light was referred to as "subdued" I was thinking "huh? have you actually listened to it"? I guess he was specifically referring to Gotta Be Somebody's Blues, which is definitely a fair comparison... but the album as a whole, the comparison doesn't work.

Anyway, Integrity Blues is by far their most creative and adventurous album. Nothing like what I expected from Jimmy Eat World and a complete 180 from familiar sound that Damage had.

The AV Club review reads like a person who kind of likes "The Middle" but hasn't listened to any of the albums after Futures more than twice.

Also, extremely glad "My Enemy" was left off this. That would the worst song on this album so easily. Nowhere near as good as "Get Right" or "Through."
