Shockingly relevant to this discussion, but I am listening to the debut album from Joey Valence & Brae right now and if anyone wants that Beastie Boys sound in 2023, it's fun as hell

I learned today that RAP Ferreira released a delta blues album last year under the name Crow Billiken and that he own and runs a record store right here in Nashville. I had no clue.

new CZARFACE is predictably great, their best in a few

beat on All That For A Drop Of Blood had me grinning ear to ear

Looking back through my "listened to list" and there's not a ton of hop hop that really connected with me this year. I liked some of the Alchemist produced stuff (Mike, Roc Marciano, Larry June, Earl) but none of it really did that much for me compared to those artists' other work.

These are probably my top 5.

Young Thug - Business is Business
    Danny Brown - Quatra
    Gunna - A Gift and a Curse
    03 Greedo - Free 03
BLP Kosher - Bars Mitzvah (more of an honorable mention - didn't love the album as a whole, but there are a few tracks I dig and I like BLP as an artist overall)

The D Dot/Dilla discourse on Twitter over the past few days centered around eXquire has been pretty entertaining to see. Ex makes a lot of good points

I don’t know what any of that means but Dilla is great

Based on that tweet I'd say that someone started a D Dot vs. Dilla argument. To me that doesn't make too much sense because apples and oranges. However, I will say that D Dot is underrated.

He started his show during the summer by doing two or three blues tracks first before launching into his rap stuff. Was pretty good.

saw Genesis Owusu with Earthgang tonight. absolutely incredible show, Earthgang were the support and they stole the show honestly. the crowd energy was insane

also seeing them live just reinforced my stance that Wowgr8 is the most underrated rapper around right now. dude's bars are unbelievable and he didn't miss a single step live, shit he barely took a breath

I expect the RAP Ferreira and Akai Solo records to disrupt this, but currently I’m at

    1. Navy Blue - Ways Of Knowing
    2. Danny Brown - Quaranta
    3. Maxo - Even God Has A Sense Of Humor
    4. McKinley Dixon - Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!?
    5. Burna Boy - I Told Them…
    6. Elcamino & King Ralph - No Weapon Formed Against Me
    7. Mike & Wiki - Faith Is A Rock
    8. Boldy James - Indiana Jones
    9. Earl & The Alchemist - Voir Dire
    10. Jay Nice - Rise & Shine

  20. I should probably revisit that Navy Blue album

I feel like a lot of people missed this one. I kinda did. A really fun rap album and better than their first one.

How about we make a thread AOTY top 5 again? If you submit ranked lists, I can make an aggregate.

How about the 18th as a deadline?

  25. Down - if the 18th is the deadline you can just use the list I posted up the page for my submission
