Everything after the first 18 would just be bonus for me. My top 3 are what would make me pull the trigger on attending. I’ve seen Sticks and Stones 3 times already.

GA and VIP tickets still available. Makes it look like Sunday doesn't have as much demand, for good or bad. I did layaway for Saturday GA, but I am going to eat the $120 and cancel as my friend got VIP for Sunday so I'll go with that. Makes it a pretty expensive trip, but I have read from all accounts that the VIP is pretty much worth it. If it's not oh well, I know for next year.

I am extremely excited about this years lineup but there's honestly as much stuff that I either don't know or hate, as stuff I like.

Some of the bands and albums that are playing, I have barely heard of, yet alone be able to name a single song off the album being played. Still, on a day when I'll probably be able to see 12-15 bands at most (in earnest), I'll make it worth it.

I struggle to articulate it, but this is exactly the kind of thing that makes me hate associating with this fest and the whole “emo nostalgia” thing.

I never stopped listening to this kind of bands or going to their shows. To me they’re not something from the past— they’re just something from my life.

acting like liking Fall Out Boy or Taking Back Sunday is some radical thing we used to do as kids seems goofy as hell to me. Either you like them or you don’t- no shame about it either way.

Returning to it as a bit or as escapism seems even weirder. The people who go to WWWY overdressed to the point of it being cosplay depresses the shit out of me. I feel like there’s way too big of a segment of people who see this as a chance to LARP or be someone they’re not or pretend like theyre edgy.

It’s just a fucking music festival. Go if you like the bands. Have fun, but don’t try to be the main character and don’t try to make your being there any deeper than it needs to be. And definitely don’t bring it up unprovoked in some weird LinkedIn monologue.

it’s specifically stuff like this (and the price tag, let’s be honest) that will probably keep me from coming back.

Totally how I felt being at both years of this. A ton of cosplaying energy abound. I have seen much more excitement from my friends still going to shows about this years fest compared to previous years, hopefully the energy can shift a little.

There's a lot of "Republicans are the new punk rock" energy in that post. LOL. But anyway...

Couldn't agree more with this. There's an "energy" to it all that just feels off. That, coupled with the revisionist history of it all, just makes me feel sad TBH. Acting like you were some sort of wild card rebel for liking Taking Back Sunday, Good Charlotte, Sum-41, Green Day, or whatever at any point from 2002-2006 is a hilarious.

I'm glad it exists though. The bands can get paid bank to play it and it does give a nice opportunity to people who were a bit younger, or folks my age who were more sheltered back in the day, a chance to "catch-up" a bit.

But most of the people I know IRL who get stoked on it are the MLM types who stopped going to shows before they got to college because their "phase" had already passed and no less than two years ago would point out my t-shirt and exclaim: "That band's still around?!!" And I just don't want to be around that vibe at all.

Ya'll are being a bit lame haha

What's wrong with asking the question 'did the punk attitude of fuck work actually motivate you to find an alternate career path like being your own boss?'. It's linkedin, it's a business site. It's hardly the most offensive thing there, the person is probably annoying for other reasons as I hate the term entrepreneur and how phony a lot of that 'lifestyle is', but it's hardly anything worth dunking on.

Also what's wrong with having a little fun and 'dressing up' for the festival?

You're making them the main character, and honestly letting how other people behave affect your mood (even if you are being sarcastic / hyperbolic) more than it needs to.

If people want to bust out their vans, old band t shirts, style an old hair cut etc, why do you even care? No one is pretending they're edgy, no one is trying to make it deeper than it is, they're just enjoying themselves? And from going 2 years in a row, it absolutely is escapism. That's what a vacation is? It's time off work to decompress and enjoy things instead of worrying about tasks for others. It's probably actually good you're staying away as you'd be a buzzkill. I spoke to so many strangers at craps / blackjack tables / slot machines and at the fest, and everyone was just there having fun. No fights, no arguing, just enjoying seeing bands live that they may not have seen in a long time and not having a care in the world. Not everyone goes to concerts all the time still. I do (2-3 month) and the WWWY fest has been the best each year.

I’m not saying it’s the worst problem in the world or even the music industry. But it *is* annoying.

Call me lame or a gatekeeper or whatever but if you take ANY group of people with a shared set of interests and etiquette and you inject a bunch of people who don’t have the same mindset, you’re going to ruin the original vibe.

It’s a problem that in my experience is mostly specific to WWWY. I go to a lot of punk/emo/hardcore/pop punk fests and the only other instance I can say had that feeling was the day of Riot Fest that MCR played and they severely oversold tickets.
