Lumping the kids who have been harmed by this culture and who will most likely learn more as they grow up in with the adults who prey on them is pretty gross. Hopefully the band really is going to call it quits, but it seems much more likely to be a crass rebranding and reiteration that they will never stop.

I’ve heard that the ATL post is referring to a Greatest Hits/Best Of thing because apparently their 20th anniversary being a band is next year.

I prefer the split up rumours though.

taking a shot at underage girls when talking about predators is some weak shit to say the least

also pop punk is a fun genre and i don't think there's anything wrong with listening to it, it's just full of scumbags unfortunately

  5. Statements like these irk me in general, as my cynical self just reads them as "I'm superior for not listening to this problematic band", which... weird flex but okay. It's just so low effort and doesn't really address anything.

I really don't think ATL lost many fans outside of this website from what I've noticed

Yeah they were playing the same venues and did fine. One of those bands that's core is so strong that they can probably withstand anything and be fine without really concrete evidence

Honest question from someone who hates most pop punk and would love for most males who play it to be revealed as pieces of shit - are there any ATL allegations beyond the 3 outlined in their lawsuit?

  9. digitalsea

    hate my favorite band

Hoping for more people to be pieces of shit to justify your dislike of a genre is totally rational

    It's all hell.

Especially on a website that literally used to be called absolutepunk lmao

ok fair, i suppose in trying asking a serious question i shouldn't be attaching such hyperbole, but i've seen many times how people get treated in regards to this stupid band and i want to make it clear i do not like them.

Yeah, as someone who was a really big ATL fan until all the shit hit the fan, I didn't notice any real roll back of support in my area. They've come through twice since everything got really public and sold out both times. I have no idea if the album was received poorly by the fan base, but even if it was, it didn't deter them from going, and the allegations definitely didn't, either.

There's a decade worth of stories about Jack making obnoxious, overly sexual comments at m&gs and onstage but I wouldn't really consider those accusations when they were the whole brand.

  14. Not really asking who unless you feel like volunteering that information, more just surveying - does anyone else have an irredeemable artist whose music they return to very occasionally when they really need it for comfort reasons?

Sure, there's an artist or two who I very occasionally will listen to for reasons like that but wouldn't give any money to or talk about them

i do not by any means want to speak for anyone, and i fully believe you if you say you have completely disowned certain artists for your own reasons, but i think it would be silly to think that there are not people who post frequently on this of all websites that still listen to some of these artists on occasion for their own reasons. i had shuffle on this weekend on an old playlist and a few BN songs came on, i let them play, i'm comfortable with my decisions and reasons behind it, but im not gonna come in here and try to gain support for the decision and put someone else in a position to be exposed to the topic.

there's one artist who i sort of knew was awful (in a vague and undetailed way, just whispers) by the time i became a superfan and since details came out i haven't really been able to listen to his work, but i know i will again at some point. the music is too connected to some of the most wonderful and devastating and even mundane (i'll always associate one of their records with driving on a snowy highway for the first time) memories of my college years, and as far as i'm concerned he's not allowed to ruin that

At the end of the day, it's probably almost physically or scientifically impossible to completely remove a connection to something. Most people fall in love with songs, artists, bands, music, film, tv shows, etc because they feel emotionally connected to it. While you can theoretically completely stop listening or watching, you'll always have that connect in some way, shape or form.

Nobody should ever be made to feel guilty about that.

  22. For sure. Agree with all of that. Having one of those days and more so wanted to poll the thread on their thoughts.

Tool was my all time favorite band for years. It was pretty easy to drop them a few years ago when stuff came out about Maynard. But I for sure have days where I just want to hear those basslines again
