    John Voorhees, writing at MacStories:

There are a million questions that could be answered by Apple Music that aren’t, and that’s a shame.

Spotify does a better job at surfacing interesting data with Wrapped, but if you’re like me and prefer other aspects of Apple Music, sign up for Last.fm, use one of the many excellent indie apps, like Marvis Pro, Soor, Albums, Longplay, Doppler, and Air Scrobblethat support the service, and then enjoy your weekly, monthly, and annual reports in Last.fm’s app or on its website.

I 100% agree. Not only does Last.fm let you look into the data whenever you want, but you can also have your entire year of listening history at your disposal. And past years. There’s never a better time to start scrobbling than now, and the end of the year is a great time to begin collecting the data.

I use Marvis on iOS and Neptunes on the Mac and am happy with both. Passed the 100k scrobble mark this year and set a new personal record for number of songs listened to.

It’s a shame that Last.fm itself almost does not evolve. There are so many possibilities and additional insights one could get from the data. And they’re making small updates, like adding a new filter to scrobbles, every several months, in the best case scenario.

wish apple or spotify would just buy last.fm at this point. it always bugged me that apple music never supported it natively even though the third party apps work fine. but now with my Pixel i'm weirdly enjoying the 'now playing' feature picking up random songs at the store/radio and then having an app push those to my profile.

  4. Lastfm has some frustrating bugs and too frequently disconnects my automatic scrobbling, but besides that, my only regret is not signing up sooner! I hate that my lastfm account only has 3 years of data.

I know Jason has been on last fm forever. How does it track music? Do you connect accounts?

i have all these apps connected, it looks lime this..

i mainly listen to music off itunes (though my desktop scrobbler) and then spotify, so it keeps track of everything, my spotify is never as accurate as lfm. like my spotify wrapped came in and my # 1 band on there is #9 on my actual plays this year

  9. Basically yes. If you have Spotify it’s built in their app and you just connect your account to it. If you have Apple Music or something else you need third party apps. I use Neptunes on the computer and Marvis on iOS and it gets everything I listen to. Marvis also lets you manually scrobble things you hear elsewhere if you want.

Really enjoy the weekly reports they do. Super cool to look at the different genres for the week

I have been on it since 2010 thanks to Jason. I love it.

It is a huge help when I get to AOTY time.

I use Spotify, Bancamp, and Soundcloud.

I primarily use last.fm to have the songkick link and know when artists I like are coming thru town. The pair of them together are mmmmm *chef's kiss*

I love songkick too. It is so helpful. It does miss a good amount of tours or leaves bands off but generally it is good.

I’m not sure if anyone uses last fm much anymore but I just made my first profile in years. I used to love it so it’d be cool to enjoy it like I used to. Feel free to follow!
