The bit where The Rock is referring to his movies as properties over and over again was so cringe-inducing. It's absolutely wild to think he once did Southland Tales.

    Cinderella

    Dumbo

    Beauty and the Beast
    The Jungle Book
    Mulan

    The Lion King

    Maleficent
    Alice in Wonderland

    Aladdin

Not counting Christopher Robin, despite it being listed on the wiki. It would easily be the best, but it's a distinct story, not a remake.

People always say they like the Cinderella one, but I thought it was very dull. I kind of like the Aladdin one, but that's almost entirely because of Will Smith.

Only one I've bothered seeing is Jungle Book and thought it was pretty cool but mostly because Christopher Walken played a big Orangutan

Pete’s Dragon was great because it did more than just parrot what the original did. I mean, the parents died in like the first five minutes - pretty bold choice.

I also liked Jungle Book, but the rest can go in the bin.

I agree Christopher Robin doesn’t count but I thought it was wonderful

The rise of Korean films that are usually partly or mostly in English has been noticeable.

David Lowery rules. Pete’s Dragon didn’t just retell the original and it had more heart than a ton of movies do. I find it to be way more enjoyable than the original. Can't recommend it enough. (But his Pan remake wasn’t the best)

I don't think I ever saw the original Pete's Dragon. Lowery is the only thing that has me interested in watching the remake one day.

Yeah went and checked my letterboxd and most of the people that I follow that have reviewed it like it. Was never really on my radar before.

Starting round 2 of the Chorus FM weekly movie club

Same rules as last time, everyone one is welcome! Post in the thread if you want to join in.
It's a new list, previous participants won't be included unless they post to join round 2

    Rules for picking your movie:
1.It must be easily available. That means a popular streaming service and/or digital rental. No one is buying some import DVD to watch it.
    2. The film should be older than two years old. We don't need to repeat recent conversations.
    3. The film should not be extremely well-known. There is no need to discuss a blockbuster like Avatar or a renowned canon masterpiece like Citizen Kane.

Each Monday will be a new recommendation from the chosen member. The next member will choose the movienextMonday. We will go in the order of the posted list and new members will be added to the bottom until we finish the list

Back to the Disney convo, I do love very much that Guy Ritchie actually DID make a bunch of "one for me" movies after his "one for them" catastrophe.

I have been working through lists of the greatest television shows of all time and now there are almost 300 episodes of Frasier. It feels like a 90's version of The Big Bang Theory. The jokes are always telegraphed and obvious and broad. It is only the fourth episode and they are already not respecting their own character consistency (the father makes a big deal about saying grace in the fourth episode but they didn't say grace at dinner in the last episode). There is something to giving earlier shows the benefit of the doubt, but Seinfeld and The Simpsons and The Larry Sanders show were already on. This and The West Wing are like pulling teeth.

Ahh yes, children’s stories famously never contain any messages, morals, or life lessons. It’s only in the last few years that this has started happening because of woke.
