I just now learned about Armando Ianucci's upcoming HBO comedy about the crew on the set of filming of a major franchise superhero movie. Immediately one of my most anticipated of 2024.

 

lol I know she was hated a lot but still kinda funny to see two of the most sadistic characters ever 1-2 and then her

 

poor Rachel. she'll always be my fav.

 

I wonder how much of that is just people hating Lea Michele

 

idk that character has always gotten a ton of hate lol. I'm sure that stuff doesn't help though.

Disney has been awfully silent about the fact they're sitting on the dragon ball live actions rights...
I wonder if there are silent plans in motion, I feel like that could easily be their rebound cash cow if they play their cards right.

 

Shang-Chi is the closest we’ve gotten to a decent Dragon Ball film and that’s not even half of how fantastical an honest Dragon Ball film would need to be.

I also don’t know how they’ll make a series of films that will please the fans. Start with the beginning of Z? You’re like at 2 or 3 films before super saiyan and you’ll upset the Dragon Ball fans. Start with Dragon Ball and you’ll be 5 films away from super saiyan.

Will the films just follow the anime/manga? There’s nothing that exciting about adapting the story so strictly, and will get boring around the 3rd film once people realize everything is touching the same bases. There’s also everything to lose if the story slightly branches off from the structure of the source material and fans get upset. All of this would have to be an early decision.

I think it’s best to not touch it with attempts at live action.

I’ve never seen it, but I’m inclined to say, no, I wouldn’t like it.

I don’t even like real DBZ anymore (outside of thinking Android 18 and final form Frieza were dope), lol. And the adaptation doesn’t seem to be the right kind of genre schlock. Gives me the same vibe as, like, those awful “live action” Disney remakes (Cruella doesn’t count; that’s the good one).

 

Pete’s Dragon live action is far and away the best live action.
