I'd say there is actually quite a bit of combat in Baldur's Gate 3, and encounters themselves can go pretty long in more difficult fights.

Having said that I stopped very early in Act II and need to pick it back up soon.

I feel insane even asking this, but is that from a game or is that someone's extremely extreme cosplay?

Player's Log: Trails of Cold Steel.

I'm almost done with the first day of the Field Study in Chapter 4, and that's where I'm going to have to stop, cause I unfortunately go back to work tomorrow. Vacation is over.

Something I really like about the Trails series is how determined they seem to be to tell stories through multiple games. Like, Sky took two games (3 is really its own thing) and Crossbell took two games, and I can tell whatever story is being woven here is not wrapping up in this game. (I know there are four Cold Steel games, but I'm gathering 3 and 4 are kind of their own story in a way).

Anyway, it's great though, this decompressed storytelling, because it's like, I get to know these characters through the first game, and then the second game comes and puts them through the wringer. It's just such a cool way to go about it.

It's gonna suck when I wrap up all this though, cause Daybreak doesn't come out in English until next year and Daybreak III(!) doesn't come out in Japan until next year, so it's gonna be a long wait for that arc to be completely playable.

Fextralife YouTube channel has great BG3 content. I watched a bunch of their character build videos to get an idea of how the classes play.

otherwise went in pretty much blind and agree, its really great.

Turn based combat, extremely lengthty, rewards creativity and trying 'weird' things out in combat. Huge branching story where just about every dialogue option has a unique outcome. I still have yet to finish as i burned out and now i just want to start over as ive lost immersion. Its a commitment... 10/10 voice acting and world buillding. I started with other games in he genre, DOS2 / disco elysium. I would have bailed if it was my first crpg as its intimidating. Its not neccessarily hard, just deep.

  17. I learned a bit of 3.5 through NwN, I've heard 5e is much more accessible. Hope that's reassuring to anyone going in blind

hot take: 5e might be too simple and Baldur's Gate is a more accessible game for it, but would be more interesting if they used an older edition.

a lot of people have gone back to Divinity OS 2 to get their combat fix after BG3.

  19. I think it's cool that it's so accessible that people new to the genre are treating it like a dating sim

Speaking of being hard on my PC, jesus Alan wake 2 seems to be stuttering hard even turning it down to low settings. I have a 3080, this is the first game I’ve experienced that not being good enough. Any PC nerds have recommendations for other settings I can tweak to make it run a little smoother?

are you on the latest drivers? are you using DLSS? I have a 3080 and had no problem running it at all.

open up your Nvidia overlay (ALT-R) and see what's that telling you.

fwiw Alan Wake does not scale at all with any setting, just make sure Ray or Path Tracing are off I guess.

    here's the Digital Foundry guide

Yes and yes. It might just be an overheating problem honestly…it runs perfect for like the first 20-30 mins of play and then the stuttering will start. It’s usually more noticeable if I’m popping in and out of the mind place/writers room a lot.
