You’d hope that the comic would have been working out new material and mixing it into their polished set by the time their special is out. But everyone is different and preferences can be generational/scene-based. Maybe younger folks/Matt Rife view comedy like music, where this is the album and that is what people want to see live.

 

Feel like no one in this thread watched the Segura/Rife interview. Rife talked about how he works in crowd work but definitely has moments/shows where he is like not into it. He definitely came off as being an experienced comedian and knowing when to work the crowd versus using material, etc. I haven't watched the new special but I do feel like the interview kind of helped me think of Rife as more than just a social media/one hit wonder type comedian. Excited to check it out.

Made a last minute decision to see Josh Gondelman tonight, he was incredible.

there was the most obnoxious group of dudes behind us thought. Brought in a bunch of pizzas, had to comment on every joke, just talked and one of them had a cup of ice that he kept shaking and loudly chewing on. I hope they all get hit by a train tonight.

People were saying his comedy is inclusive to women and not hack, so he had to prove them wrong.

 

Made it ten minutes in before I turned it off. It’s so shitty to see a guy almost ten years younger than me having such mean-spirited material.
