Player's Log: Trails To Azure.

I'm a good ways into the final chapter. I've stopped just before the final bonding scene.

The nice part is it's really easy in this game to fill everyone's bonding meter if you make the right choices, and now I've made six separate saves so that tomorrow night I'll just line them all up and knock 'em all down.

And each save data with a completed bonding scene apparently counts as part of the whole or something, I don't really understand it, but anyway, cool stuff. I'm saving Elie for last because, I mean, do I need to explain?

Anyway, I still don't know if I'll finish the game tomorrow, but I might? I might.

 

Gonna wrap up Chapter 6 of Cold Steel 1 tonight/tomorrow, then finish the final chapter by week's end. Just in time for SMRPG!

God Alan Wake II is sick

 

Absurdly competent and the dual worlds mechanic is a lot of fun. It’s been patched like 20 times since release so it’s an easy recommendation.

 

Mostly Engineer, that’s always been my favorite. I just unlocked Pilot though and have been having a lot of fun with that one too.

Yeah Engineer rules, I started trying different ones yesterday and Loader and Acrid are really fun. Pilot is sick.

Nice to see Alan Wake II and Mario Wonder get GOTY noms. Personally Tears of the Kingdom is my GOTY, but I would put money on BG3 because it feels more fresh. As much as I enjoyed TOTK, I didn't enjoy it as much as BOTW.

 

AW2 is peak video game writing. But lets be honest: it will probably lose to the obvious.

 

I think BG3 gets it just from what it did to the gaming industry this year and exceeded every expectation.

I think Alan Wake 2 is my favorite game of the year however

 

I hope Alan Wake gets a surprise win for game direction or art direction.

Yeah, I don't see how it won't be BG3, which I loved even if I liked AWII more.

 

It's the Year Of The Horn in gamerville, so we all know who's winning. Baldur's Gate? More like Boner's Gate, am I right?

 

Is RE4 the only remake to ever be nominated for GOTY? Can't recall any other remakes ever making the list

 

BG3 set the bar (extremely fucking high) for what an RPG can be. From an openness perspective, world perspective etc. Games like that don’t come around often. I’d imagine nearly every publication gives it GOTY

 

Off the top of my head, I think so. RE4 was outstanding but I was surprised to see it over something like FF16 or Hi-Fi

I feel kinda bad for Sea of Stars cause in most years it probably could've won best RPG but it's got fucking Baldur's Gate in the category.
