Truthfully, I think you can be totally informed about the MCU and watch the trailer and still have no idea what's going on beyond them all swapping locations whenever they use their powers.

I hate to keep quoting Reddit because, you know, it's Reddit, but people did point out that the trailers haven't explained the plot of the film very well, which is another problem for marketing, because why would anyone see a film without any idea what it's about?

That may be a case of relying too much on the Marvel name to sell tickets.

    So assuming that this weekend...

This makes me think of the famous Stan Lee quote "every comic is someone's first," so each new book should be written in a way that introduces the characters just enough to follow the story without having read anything prior.

I love how interconnected the MCU is between movies and streaming shows, but I'm also a bigger fan than most. I'd be okay sacrificing a few minutes at the start of each movie to go over character backgrounds to catch the audience up to speed on characters X, Y, and Z they may not know from some other D+ streaming show if it helps the movies be more successful.

I think this basic concept is something the past few MCU movies forgot.

This was a solid fun time at the movies! My biggest complaint, and this may be personal preference, was that water/musical planet. Legitimately couldn’t understand much of what the characters were saying. And somehow, we didn’t spend enough time there to care about it being attacked.

But as others have said, Ms Marvel rocks. So much more energy and charisma than the other leads. Definitely feel better about where things are headed with the MCU.

Definitely think the actors not being able to promote it hurt a lot because that’s a lot of publicity lost.

I thought this was…okay. Plot was a total mess and I felt the reshoots and heavy edits all over the place. Lot of it just felt frenetic and occasionally incoherent. I liked Kamala a lot, which I’m not surprised by because I loved her show. I think it’s good so many of these upcoming projects got moved back and out of next year because of the strikes, etc. They need to use the extra time to reassess.

So now that opening weekend is done, I feel ok talking spoilers. Biggest thing is I wish they would have done was had the villain be more connected with the Supreme Intelligence. Reveal later in the movie that after Carol destroyed it, Dar-Ben merged with its remnants and it’s slowly taking her over but also isn’t handling having emotions well, which better explains her anger against Carol. By the end the SI has completely consumed her, but doesn’t fully understand the bangles or the magic behind them because it’s pure logic with unchecked rage. I think it’s a small change that would have greatly improved the villain.

    hate my favorite band

There’s always been blue Kree and pink Kree (more human looking). I believe the blue ones are considered like more pure or some crap. But I think it’s more or less just like how humans aren’t just one color.

Anyways. I decided to see this tonight because my friend was gushing about it and said she thought I’d be into it.

And, y’know what? I was into it!

I can see why “normal people” would have mixed feelings about this. The story felt a bit incoherent in a lot of ways. But, as someone who had isolated issues of the Clone Saga and Onslaught as a kid and thought, “I don’t know what’s happening, but hey, cool!” I was able to ride by on vibez. (Thank goodness it was only about a hundred minutes, which was the correct amount of minutes.)

Kamala was the MVP, but I liked all three leads, even Carol. And, the way-too-brief Valkyrie cameo was cool; when she connected with Carol, I was like, heh, gay.

I genuinely lost it during the flerken escape sequence.

The Beast scene in the credits was… not a great scene? Clearly pretty cobbled together, which lessened the impact. But, I was still happy to see Beast and a door with the X on it. Hopefully they do something worthwhile with that whole thing.

Saw this last night, and I thought it was honestly great. Probably my favorite Marvel movie since the Infinity Saga (Spider-Man: No Way Home notwithstanding; Doctor Strange 2 as the only close competition). It finally felt like some pay off to a lot of things, both plot wise and just time I've invested into the franchise.

Finally seeing characters who have only been in the Disney+ shows have their big screen debuts put a huge grin on my face. Iman absolutely stole the show and it was so fun seeing her be a part of a much bigger story. And seeing threads from those shows followed up on was pretty cool. I mean Wandavision, Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion, and Hawkeye all tied into this in some way, big or small. And while I mostly agree Secret Invasion isn't required viewing (and was also a snooze of a show), it did set up the attempted peace talks between the Skrulls and Kree.

I can see why people think the movie was disjointed and kind of incoherent. I don't disagree and some of the details of the plot were kind of lost on me but I knew what was going on overall. And I laughed out loud so many times. I love how unhinged it got. The singing planet? Space cats eating everyone set to the tune of Memory? Exactly my kind of humor lol

Even if it's still happening slowly, I'm starting to see where this is heading beyond just "multiverse clash". I left the movie feeling excited about both what I saw and what's going to happen next.

“It’s not that deep.” Iman Vellani, you absolute queen. Hope she does some work (both in comics and film) outside of Marvel before too long.

As excited as I am for any more Ms Marvel they want to give us, I also would love to see her get out of the MCU machine and do other stuff.

Champion of an answer and it makes me a little angry to think young people just having fun doing what they love have to be drawn into this toxic sort of conversation.

If she’s having fun working with marvel why can’t she just continue to do that then?
