I finally bought wall-e. And breakfast club. I stopped buying all the stuff I knew I wouldn’t watch more than once.

Someone noted that the taxpayers just coughed up $30mil to Warners for the movie, so it should be public domain. Someone bribe a politician to start pushing for that.

I’ve seen that argument a ton online, and I think it’s a really compelling one that I’d love to see made into law.

Not necessarily a legal argument, but people deserve the right to art. The owner can charge a reasonable fee but you shouldn't be able to withhold something like that.

I just can’t stop thinking about how they still went ahead and released The Flash. I know that was probably projected to bring in more money and superheroes blah blah blah but I think if they can do this to any movie for any reason, we have the right to question how and why those choices are being made

The Flash was a good movie, though

Better than most of the current phase of Marvel films (NWH and Shang Chi were really the only better movies)

Oh, unless GOTG3 was part of this phase.. that movie is a fucking masterpiece

…The Flash also had a kidnapper pedo as the face of the movie

Well yeah that's why I pirated the movie.

I think you’re missing the point I’m trying to make.

Batgirl was deemed “not good enough” to release. Zaslav is quoted as saying it was being shelved to help “protect DC.” So first of all, it’s now public knowledge that it’s more harmful to have a potentially not great movie come out than a movie with a known abuser.

Now we have Wile E Coyote, a movie with an incredibly likable cast that’s tested extremely well and gets shelved. Regardless of anyone’s personal feelings on The Flash, it’s gotten an extremely mixed reaction from audiences. So what exactly is the criteria determining what does and doesn’t get released? And given the three films we’re talking about here, why is a potentially not great film not centered around white stars and another film that’s tested so well more of a problem than one with mixed reviews and an abuser at the forefront?

These movies are being shelved as economic choices, not creative choices

Well yeah, of course. But that also contradicts that they’re shelving a movie that’s slated to do well and could possibly reinvigorate another franchise

Maybe, maybe not. I’m dunno if I agree positive test screenings and Will Forte/John Cena indicates a hit. Maybe Warner Bros cartoons are wildly popular with kids now, I have no idea, but I don’t get any sense it looms large in the culture.

A write down might make more sense for the studio’s outlook, especially if they’re retooling Warner Animation, and shifting focus away from Max, but who knows

  17. That's kinda the problem, the studio's outlook is shit, Zazlav and all those other rich fucks are too stupid and out of touch to have any idea what will and won't be successful

It's interesting to look at how the relationship between brands, advertising and art has been subverted. It started as Art using advertising to promote itself and the branding was an advertising tactic. Now the Brand is at the centre and the art is being used as an advertisement for it.

Doesn’t make sense how a $30 million tax write off > box office numbers or other studios wanting to buy it

I read a rumor a few years ago about Disney wanting to buy EA. Imagine a The Sims animated series for Disney+ lol
