She was on the cover of Rock Sound ages ago and appeared to be heavily leaning into some weird infantile persona and that's probably the most I know about her. I only vaguely knew about the allegations.

She sounds like trash either way

  4. Thinking about it, I think I only know of her because she was on the same season as (and lost to) Cassadee Pope on The Voice. If not for that I might be in the same boat as y’all. Dunno anyone irl that listens to her

  5. I knew her from our local shop have a copy of that Crybaby record for years. I don't think anyone would purchase it.

Not really accountability but that reminds me that earlier this year for her VIP Meet and Greets at her shows she literally just green screened herself in, did like two poses and then walked off lol

I felt like she was a darling on her season of the voice and lots of people liked her. Christina aguilera got heat for always giving her crictism/feedback. I think she has a small cult following. They're not gonna care. They have a narrative that the allegations were disproven and fake.

The “fanfiction” was this weird story about someone running into Brendan alone on on a train and it leading to sexual assault IIRC.

    Things have changed.

As it someone in a band as popular as them would be taking public transportation after a show – in the city they just performed in.

  15. A nothingburger statement as damage control - they would have addressed this properly the day after the gig if they really cared. Fuck them.

Yeahhhh, these were pretty much my thoughts when I saw the lineup come out as well. It's middle-aged warped tour.

The way WWWY has now chosen to entirely be a nostalgia fest gives itself permission to book zero diversity and shitty dudes. Year 1 had MM@TA, Royal & the Serpent, The Linda Lindas... this last year had Kenny Hoopla and Michelle Branch? There's nothing serving the ~future of the scene and what it could look like.

The name of the thing is literally “When We Were Young,” lol; what else would one expect.

Not that people can’t or shouldn’t demand better. But, this kinda nostalgic entity very naturally leans “conservative.” When your core identity is looking to the past, you pretty easily end up ignoring the past & future & “progress.”

In that specific genre there just wasn’t a lot of popular acts that showcased diversity. It’s a shame, but at least this is clearly a nostalgia fest and that snapshot in time isn’t indicative of where we’re at now on most fests. I do think overall we’re going in the right direction in modern fests.

A fair point, however, they could at the very least refrain from booking bands fronted by (or containing) known shitheads *cough*savestheday*cough*.

why does anyone bother "calling out" Live Nation/Ticketmaster events? I promise you they do not care.

I dunno, there were definitely acts who were popular enough during the era they are going for (Hey Monday, Tonight Alive, Versaemerge, New Years Day, Evanescence, Candy Hearts, We Are The In Crowd, even newer acts like Stand Atlantic or Eat Your Heart out could work, especially if they’re letting new acts (with the past 10 years) perform like Mom Jeans. Obviously there were more male/non-POC acts in the era they are going for, but there still were quite a few that could play this festival.

There’s a post about this on r/poppunkers subreddit and a lot of the comments are actually in agreement that this is a noticeable issue, which is nice to see. You don’t often get that from Reddit.

The whole thing just kind of reads like this: all these male dominated bands happened to be available and willing to play this festival but conveniently very few women were available or agreed? Seems more likely they just weren’t asked.

Edit to add: and instead of including any of those acts having Dance Gavin Dance, Saves The Day, Say Anything, and others perform is not a great look.)

The name was always whack but when they booked the bands I listed I had hope they would lean into pushing adjacent new stuff while celebrating everything else.
