Ok, finished my second full listen since this came out. My opinion hasn't really changed but it's definitely not like I bounced off the whole record. I really enjoy a new moral low ground and burn down my house. Other stuff like deep fake and when we were young aren't too special but they are solid enough. But I am just so bored by stuff like spit the bone and born again pessimist.

Really not a fan of hard rock tho so that might be it, they lean hard into that sound on this record.

edit: forgot to mention be very afraid which is definitely one of the better tracks. also, great production on this record, really full sounding mix.

I'd say definitely continue chronologically, but of course be prepared for 'The Here And Now' to be the outlier on that run. 'Daybreaker' is them steering the ship back, and then I tend to class 'LF/LT', 'All Our Gods...' and 'Holy Hell' as its own trifecta/era of them basically pioneering and setting the template for most modern metalcore bands of today.

The latest two are them going down a more radio rock/arena ready route, which makes sense to me even if they're definitely not my favourite records of theirs. I think they pretty much did all they could with the style of 'LF/LT' et al before making it completely sterile.

  11. Didn't see this coming. Whether they bring in a replacement or not, I'm curious to see what direction they take next musically.

    It’s a mega bummer.

He has some good riffs hidden deep in the mix on the last record - the difference even in a really good track like Be Very Afraid vs how much it absolutely owns live must be frustrating. Would love to see more of that, with more technical metal paired with the big hooks, as they move forward. It seems to be working.

I was shocked the first time I heard the riff in the live version of Be Very Afraid. I didn't even notice it in the mix.

  16. Yeah I loved the Gothenburg infused riffing and especially soloing he added to the newer songs live. From what I've seen elsewhere, there seems to be a consensus he was underused. I don't know how much the other guitarist contributes writing wise, but I hope whatever they put out next will still have that Architects flair.

Never listened to Sylosis, but boy, for those who miss the old Architects, this album would fit the bill. This fucking RIPS.

In the meantime I hope the boys are recovering from the Metallica shows and basking in their glow of their success. Maybe writing some new tunes. I think some of their catchiest songs ever were on the last record. Give me more songs that ride the line between Be Very Afraid and When We Were Young/Living is Killing Us and I think we would all be pretty happy.

...and I'm over here in my corner wishing they continued with the Lost forever//Lost Together sound. I know Tom had a huge part in that record... miss that version/era of the band so much.
