Ah nice, was wondering when this was going to be announced. Wild that a band with just 3 released songs has so much hype but that is the "UK Buzz Band" model.

Really surprised this thread isn’t bumping more. This album bangs.

there's a lot of great stuff to dig into here. my partner was somewhat let down that the album seemingly wasn't as energetic/upbeat as the singles, although i disagree.

The Red Scare line was so cringe but I love the vocals

Great record, their tour here is almost sold out (not surprising for typical "Hyped UK Act" hysteria) but will be curious to see if they can sustain.

Nothing Matters was playing on alternative radio this week.. a LOT....

They sound familiar. But i cannot put my finger on it.

Wiki has this but this doesnt help. Its not Siouxsie or Kate. But it sounds like 4AD sounding. Maybe Cocteau Twins, but not as ethereal?

    Musical style
"Nothing Matters", was described as "art-rock bombast" by Rolling Stone UK,[13] while the Evening Standard described their music and live shows as having a "distinctive baroque-pop sound and look".[20] The band have been compared to Kate Bush,[13] Siouxsie and the Banshees,[21] Roxy Music,[22] ABBA,[23] Queen,[24] Sparks,[21] Florence and the Machine,[25] and Warpaint.[1] The band's members cited David Bowie as a leading influence.[6]

    The rivalry is back on

One of the singers reminds me of Ellie Rowsell

Only a few songs in on my first full listen but this is incredible so far.

Also want to add that the hook to Feminine Urge reminds me so much of Hot Hot Heat.

    What was it?

  22. In the sea with them. Making comments like that after going to a £40k/year boarding school? How fucking crass and out of touch do you have to be?

yeah, doesn't bode well for the industry plant accusations (which i honestly don't care about, but wouldn't be surprising)

This band sounds like exactly like you would expect them to based on that comment.

    Not for me.

Perhaps I’m just too busy thinking about the cost of living crisis and wondering how single parents and older people are going to eat this winter to see the bigger picture, like music made by the privileged children of posh elite Tories:chin:

To be fair, just read this morning that the writer apologized for how bad the article made them sound and (imo) the context of the full quote does make it read a little less bad:

“To an extent, the Last Dinner Party are a product of the pandemic. These are people who had what should have been their golden years curtailed by the lockdown, experiencing seriousness and introspection instead. “We talk about this all the time,” Davis says. “After we came out of that period nobody seemed like they were having fun on stage any more, but we wanted our shows to be transcendent and escapist. I understand it — music was reflecting the ‘I’m so sad’ mood — but now people want catharsis in a different way. They don’t want to listen to post-punk and hear about the cost-of-living crisis any more.” “Now they want an end-of-the-world orgy,” Morris says. “That’s where we come in.””

The album is mid and their music is corny and the quote both amplifies the shit out of that and is pretty off base so I’m enjoying the schadenfreude either way, but I can sympathize with today being maybe a little unfairly shitty for them.
