Idk I’m beginning to think The Weatherman is their best song

Yeah I echo what Carrow said. It would only make sense to go and start with the 59' Sound. It is barely arguable at this point but it is their best album and one of my favorites albums of all time. Then you can just move forward chronologically from there:

59' Sound -> American Slang -> Elsie (Horrible Crowes - pretty similar in ways to History Books) -> Handwritten.

What is awesome is this still leaves Sink or Swim (their debut), Get Hurt, and the three solo Brian Fallon albums. All of which worth your time if you like any Gaslight album.

Orphans is top tier for me, maybe my favorite song off that album.

I don't think i'm remotely interested in trying to debate what their 'best' song is, but my personal favorite is Blue Jeans.

Yeah a band this good and consistent doesn’t have a “best” song, for example I get the love for the backseat and it’s cathartic live but it’s like my 6th favorite song on the 59 sound. Here’s lookin at you kid is probably my fav on that album

its just a silly way to discuss music. i know this is Rankings.FM but there are so much better more interesting ways to discuss music than just debating whats 'best'. so so so much of it is great, who cares whats best!

Agreed, I keep trying to bring history books back into the conversation because come on people it’s been out less than a week and this thing is a masterpiece

  13. Here’s something that nobody knows: Brendan was going to do that record. What happened was our label and the band was like, “No, we’re not going to do another record with Brendan.” Especially the label. They were like, “No, fuck Brendan, you can’t work with him again.” They had some beef with Brendan. And my band was like, “He didn’t listen to us. He only listened to you.” I was like, “Yeah, but I’m listening to you, so whatever I’m saying, he’s getting it from you, too.” There was a little divide there. I didn’t make the call that I probably should have made, which is to put my foot down and say, “No, we’re going to go with Brendan.” Instead I said, “All right, we’re going to fire Brendan.” And that was the biggest mistake, because Brendan is still pissed at me about that. That ended my friendship with Brendan. I don’t think he ever got over that. But I was like, “Dude, I want to make a record with you, but my band doesn’t. What am I supposed to do? I’m in a band, man.” At the same time, I was going through a divorce. I had just gotten a house and now I’m giving the house away. That shit is weird. It’s like you get to the mountain top and then your life falls apart.

With all this said, there are still songs on Get Hurt that I really enjoy playing. We still play the song “Get Hurt” — that’s one of the best pop-oriented songs that the band ever wrote. I love the song “Stay Vicious.” I know some people really hate it but I don’t care, because to me that’s a Soundgarden song in my head. That song rips.
This whole part was super interesting. And lol the bold is for this thread.

Yep, that was the part I thought was new. And Stay Vicious still sucks.

And also Too Much Blood is their Soundgarden riff, not Stay Vicious

If a band has one song that I don’t enjoy in a set of 20-25 songs, I’ll count that as a huge win. Not of fan of Stay Vicious, but I will admit the song is far more enjoyable live.

The stuff about bandmembers starting to bring in their own songs was super interesting. Feel like that whole paragraph was the most honest he's ever been about some of the true issues that were causing the strife.

And I still think Get Hurt is great!
