Sudden or extended immersion in hot water can superheat your body and stress your heart. Add his age, the fact that he just played a sport for 2 hours, and his past issues with his heart, this could very well have been a factor. It’s certainly an unfavorable combination.

 

Hot tubs can be dangerous espesh if someone already has a weak heart due to prior issues and just exercised. You can get light headed and pass out. Same deal with a sauna. I've also always heard it's not great to drink alcohol while in a hot tub cause you can pass out and drown. Something with dehydration I think?

That kind of heat is very dangerous depending on health conditions. I can't take too hot of a shower or else I'll feel dizzy and start getting nosebleeds.

 

Especially given the wear and tear that extended substance abuse can place on the heart, it certainly seems like a factor to consider.
