blink-182 - One More Time… (October 20, 2023) • Page 157

  1. This is kinda funny. I think the simple truth is that I just fundamentally have a different philosophy on what I think a "critic" or "review" should be. I am far more interested in something like Ebert's approach about trying to explain to someone what the artist is doing by putting it in context with history, the artist's history/catalog, looking at intent, being aware of attention to genre, he often said, "Your intellect may be confused, but your emotions will never lie to you." He valued personal, emotional reactions to films and encouraged critics to embrace this. By and large it's why I dislike so many reviews, I find them hollow, cold, and more often than not these days (looks at YouTube videos), built to chase views. It's a game, and I find so much of that dishonest and not actually engaging with the music/movie/whatever in a way that's all that interesting to me. A list of things the album does and saying it's bad isn't very interesting to me, but, again, I think my entire philosophy of wanting to to see the emotion behind why someone feels one way or another about art is at odds with current internet economics and writing styles. Just me, but I think a lot about what Generative AI can do. I think they can write 90% of that Pitchfork review with the right prompts and background information fed to it. To me (again, this is just my personal opinion on the matter) I find that ... depressing and when true, not worth writing.

Yeah I’ve never seen a concert at Fenway either. Super pumped. Hope they have a huge blink logo on the Green Monster.

was quite easy for me too, it said there were 90 people in front of me and 30 seconds later i was able to choose tix. much better than trying for Chicago last year. ended up finding a face value day of for that show and paid $300 for a 100 level seat.

No queue for Philly. But a huge LOL at two 90 dollar tickets being 230 after taxes and fees

Pit ticket for Minneapolis cost $300 after fees, but that's still cheaper than the first tour, and I have a bonus paycheck for a speech I'm giving Wednesday coming in, so I pulled the trigger. Not gonna miss a chance to see these guys again, especially with Pierce The Veil opening.

Early Entry package would have cost $400 ($480 after fees) though, lmao, fuck that.

Most of I’ve ever spent on tickets but my wife wanted good seats and said do it. Bless her heart. Front row floor behind the pit.

Demand doesn’t seem to be there like it was in some markets. There still a shit ton of tickets left for Detroit and Indy. I thought both those plus Milwaukee would sell quickly with there being no Chicago show. Tho I do wonder what the Thursday and Friday sales will look like. There’s a really strong chance they play lolla so I wonder if people are waiting

Wow I just checked the Citi Field page again and I'm shocked at 1) how well it's already selling, and 2) how much more expensive the tickets have gotten since 10am.

  10. I haven’t posted about my full experience, no. Basically…

    Cons:
It took an hour just to get in. Too many people. Too hot. Jared Leto is on another planet in his mind. The two smaller stages were too close together. I was way too far for Blink to thoroughly enjoy their set, but they were my favorite of the day.

    Pros:
The huge screens were really nice. Half the crowd left after Blink which cracked me up. I was like “oh wow, all these people would rather see Lit than Green Day?!” Haha. Overall, I enjoyed it. Got to cross a couple bands off the bucket list. Food wasn’t as expensive as I expected it’d be.

If I go next year, I’d probably splurge on 2 day tickets so I could break it up a bit. My hooves are stilllll sore.

so grumpy and cynical, but some good anecdotes throughout. kind of cool they referenced flyswatter lyrics in the opening. much stronger start than calling it “their ninth album” The take that they are tired and exhausted vs. having fun again is boring. I did like that they called DED “surprisingly affecting. it’s always an audible grown when people say blink sounds like MGK or fill in the blank travis project. the whole point of those is to revive the blink magic for a new generation.

favorite new response to people over-intellectualizing this record is “just have fun with it”

  13. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/news...industry-s-first-reckoning-with-ai-is-upon-us
When YouTube hosted an event for creators in late September, the company unveiled a bunch of new AI-powered tools, including ones for video backgrounds and dubbing.

YouTube had hoped to unveil a tool that would let users perform using the voices of major musicians. Imagine you are an amateur creator uploading a video or a song, and you could sound like Dua Lipa.

Just one problem: None of the major music companies have agreed to participate — at least not yet. Music companies have some questions, and YouTube is still working to supply the answers.

This could be a pivotal moment for the use of AI in the creative industries. For all the fuss about the potential of AI, many of the most-hyped new tools have yet to establish meaningful commercial relationships with artists (aka rights holders). That’s why there are so many lawsuits; nobody has decided how copyright law is going to work in this new(ish) field.

While this is just a test — YouTube wants to try the feature with a little more than a dozen artists — it is still a negotiation between the largest music service in the world and the largest music companies that could result in artists consenting to the use of their work.

lol, man, I know I'm old and yelling at clouds but I hate this so much.

talked to my buddy from high school who was a die hard at the time. he will always give new blink a listen. yesterday he said “yeah it’s okay, kind of contrived” today he’s all “okay it’s growing on me” followed by “dammit i guess i’m going to buy tickets to their date this summer”

How does this even work with copyright/IP/image and likeness for a person? Like, does Dua Lipa (fore example) sign the right to use his voice for this? How does it affect songs created using that person's voice? All of it seems very sketchy and lawsuit-prone.

EDIT: I 100% didn't read the whole article so I apologize if those logistics were covered.

Pricing for the Dallas show is insane. I have seen them 7 times so I am not too upset but I can't believe it is 250/400 for floor and 200 for seats in the normal viewing area. Nose bleeds are never worth it either.

travis just did an. interview saying he’ll be home for the next few months trying to write a couple of albums.

could you imagine how insane it would be if blink did the dogs eating dogs thing again. a run and gun album / ep done in like a month or two? i’m hoping for lots of music while the magic is present and alive with these three. not likely but it would be nuts.

It’s presale so they hold tickets back / only release a limited amount for each presale and then the public.

I’d agree with most of this. I wish they had water at the ticket gates, with people having to wait that long with empty water bottles.

I read somewhere else that this festival would be really well-served to be split over two days and I would agree.

Really want to see their San Diego show but I doubt I’ll be able to afford floor tickets and if you’re not on the floor at that specific venue you are SO far away from the stage and have horrible sound. Even if you’re first row in the 100 sections
