Here's to everything Frasier including the wonderful information about the upcoming new season/series!

The new show takes place in Boston!

    https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/fr...ames-burrows-direct-first-episode-1235509415/

"The first episode is set to be taped this Friday in front of a live studio audience in Los Angeles. TV helming legend James Burrows will direct the first two episodes of the new series. Burrows is also baked into the show’s DNA: He’s one of the co-creators, exec producers and directos of “Cheers,” and also directed the original “Frasier” pilot, “The Good Son,” in 1993. (He continued to direct several episodes of that show’s first several seasons.)"

He’s Still Listening: Frasier Is Getting a Paramount+ Revival

"Joining Frasier in this new city will be his (often forgotten) son Freddy, played by Jack Cutmore-Scott. According to Variety, Freddy is a blend of his father and grandfather. “Years ago, Freddy rejected following in his father’s footsteps—dropping out of college to become a fireman—and he’s never looked back until now, when recent troubles have left him with no one to turn to in his life” the character description reads."

I'm personally bummed they're going back to Boston after Cheers. I was hoping for an entirely new experience for Frasier, but it's clear that something happens and he needs to find comfort in a familiar place and maybe reconnect with some of his old friends.

This seems like a very long winded way to say the obvious: sometimes, you wanna go where everybody knows your name.

Reports from fans who attended the filming of episode one are much more positive than I expected. Fingers crossed

Close to finishing Cheers (after having seen Frasier) and last night watched the episode with Martin playing someone else.

That's so weird, I get that things like that happen all the time but this was the final season so <a year before Frasier premiered

Ultimately got a lot of laughs in the first episode, pretty classic Frasier plotline. I can't even think of the last new multi camera sitcom with a laugh track that I've watched, the cheers in the first scene were actually jarring to me, some of the physical humor too is stuff I haven't seen in a while

Kelsey Grammar just nails being Frasier Crane lol and that kinda sounds silly, but he just carries the show and has a presence that imo that makes up for the missing original cast. Niles' son does kinda work, he's kinda just goofier Niles. And best reference was Bulldog's Ave Mari
I've been watching Frasier a lot lately, idk how that effects my opinion.

also Harvard isn't in Boston and I don't think they mentioned Cambridge once

I think this is pretty good.

I like the idea of making Frasier's son a mirror of Martin, and making their dynamic a inverse of Frasier and Martin's dynamic in the original series.

Just wanna say I forgot this show was happening and forgot this thread existed, so when I saw it near the top just now I clicked it, saw @SpeckledSouls post and was like "oh man, this is perfect for a where everybody knows your name", only to keep scrolling and see that I did indeed already make that joke in February. I'm proud of 9 months ago me for thinking of it then.

I have to say that I’m enjoying the new series much more than I thought I would. It still feels very Frasier-esque, and Kelsey Grammer still captures the character great. The only couple gripes I have are

    1. It has a weird modern sitcom vibe that’s hard to describe. Idk. Maybe it’s just something I’m really not used to that I have to let sink in

    2. The character of David kind of rubs me the wrong way. I understand he’s supposed to be like a Niles 2.0, but a few different things about the character are kind of weird to me (his relationship with Frasier, his overall personality, etc.)

Otherwise, I’m enjoying it and intend to watch it more. I’m sure it’ll find its footing as it continues on

It taking place in Boston , if there isn't a Cheers castmember cameo this season eventually I am going to be disappointed.

I was thinking about this while watching Cheers the other day, Frasier Crane has to be one of the longest running live action fictional characters in American television. We have followed this character's story for almost 40 years now. The original Star Trek crew is the only live action television characters I can think of have been on TV longer. There might be some soap opera characters around awhile too.

Also it blew my mind when I realized Frasier is now around the same age Martin was in the pilot episode.

Also this show had a nice nod to deep Frasierlore. Freddy lies to his friends and tells them his dad died.

In Cheers Frasier tells the gang that his dad was a scientist who past away, that was supposed to be canon until the Frasier series happened and they introduced Martin. The continuity error was brought up on the show, and explained as Frasier lying about Martin dying to his friends because he was embarrassed. Good callback.

Oh wow! I didn’t even catch that!

I liked Freddie’s reference to The Innkeepers on this week’s episode

TIL David Crane is named in honor of Fraiser co-producer David Angell, who died on the first plane to hit the WTC on 9/11.

You can tell this new show was written by the original Boomer sitcom writers, because they just made 19 year old David the same type of old school snob as Frasier and Niles. They missed an opportunity in making David the Gen Z/Millennial equivalent of that type of person : A Reddit Guy

A Gen Z version of Frasier and Niles should be making quips about Rick & Morty and Hideo Kojima, calling games he doesn't like "baby games", gatekeeping his favorite anime franchise, ect.

Wow, I had no idea Jack Cutemore-Scott (who plays Freddie) is actually British. The voice he puts on in the show is really convincing! It’s interesting when that type of thing happens

I finally got around to watching the last couple episodes. Really enjoyed the finale/Christmas episode. It definitely had that classic Frasier situation to it and I see myself returning to it yearly with the rest of the Frasier Christmas episodes.

That being said, as much as I enjoyed Frasier and Roz being reunited, something about Roz’s appearance just felt very forced and not organic. I’m still kind of mixed on it.
