Not as romantic as one would hope. The streaming platform used was web based, no files, so it was here in my office. It was mid day and I had a nice Liquid Death iced tea sitting next to me and I hit play. Loved it right away, and felt like it put together so many parts of the band's history into one album, grabbing little nuggets from their past work and projects, and that was where I originally thought I'd take the review if I wrote one. But, wasn't sure. And then like the fourth listen or so is when the whole friendship and music thing started to hit me ... and that was when I thought I had a real theme I could build around, and it was around there I posted in the Slack channel I was going to review it.

 

When was this? I'm curious if it's around the time you started posting in here more than ever. I remember at one point thinking to myself, "Jason must have heard this and loved it."

 

He doesn't sing on it. With no credits in the liners, it's impossible to know if he even played guitar on it, or was just involved in the writing of it.

 

The little brown dots on the album cover keep making me think I have crap on my screen that I try to rub off with my finger nail haha

 

This morning I gave my wife headphones while she was still in bed and told her "this will get you going for today" and played Pt. 3. I was brushing my teeth in the other room and all I could hear was her going "woooooowww" "dammnnnn", it made me giggle. When I came back to she asked "Can you play that last 45 seconds again?"

 

lol this reminds me of when i bought 'Stranger in the Alps' i bought a copy on vinyl and on CD at the same time so i could play it in my car that at the time didnt have aux, and the guy behind the register was like "covering all your bases huh"

 

Turpentine is so wild and all over the place but I love it.

Based on the interview it's mostly Tim and Travis. Mark was surprised Tom was even on it.

 

I also may be wrong and have misinterpreted what they said about it lol ^^^

It started, like most review do, with a bunch of just random notes and thoughts and a jumbled mess of random ideas and brainstorming free association stuff into a text document.

 

What songs had you heard prior to the album in full? Part of me wishes I'd held off on listening to any of the singles after "Edging."

Getting high for my first listen felt like hearing blink for the first time. Just crazy to think that my first intro to blink was as a 10 year old mormon kid - and now this.

 

Just "Edging."

 

I can't describe it but Turpentine feels like a sequel to Reckless Abandon to me.

 

They really pulled it off. Felt like they really had something to prove this round.

 

So, I’m reading through the thread and I’m genuinely curious as to why people aren’t allowed to have negative opinions about this album?

 

Of course they're allowed to have those wrong opinions!

Haha but seriously, people are just excited. I don't think there's any real ill-will towards people who have problems with it

 

This album has some small parts where it’s the best blink has ever sounded.

when mark comes in in Anthem 3…I’ve never heard them sound so good.

 

It's wild how a good chunk of the singles they released before the album dropped aren't anywhere near the best songs on this thing imo

What the fuck is their label thinking? Bad News, Turpentine or Anthem Pt 3 could EASILY have been solid singles
