So with what I have coming in the mail I'll hit a milestone, 500. I bought my first record in 03 cuz I thought it was something neat, but didn't actually start actively collecting til around 2010? 2011? Then around 2017 I had a shit ton of medical issues arise and I stopped collecting. It wasn't until 2021 that I started again and while there's been tons of good new releases, I'm still playing catch-up to what I missed out on the years I wasn't active. It's pretty crazy when I look back at what records use to cost compared to nowadays. It's also something to see how even just a decade ago what was still niche, you can find at Walmart or Barnes and Noble now and how big name artists have embraced the format.

So what's everyone's story? What's y'all's first record? Mine was Silverstein - When Broken Is Easily Fixed way back in 03.

I wish I could remember my very first record purchased back in the early ‘00’s. Thinking it was either Agnostic Front, Sick of it All, Murphy’s Law or some other hardcore punk band / album. Haha. That was like 90% of my first collection.

I joined the vinyl game early in the 00’s era and I think my first purchase was either AFI’s Crash Love or Blink-182’s Enema of the State. Hot Topic used to have a killer vinyl section!

I got Never Take Friendship Personal by Anberlin from a local record shop a couple weeks after RSD 2012 and that kicked off a multi thousand dollar habit that shows no signs of slowing down.

Started buying in 2006 Death Cab "Transatlanticism" first press was my first purchase. Which I sold to my buddies gf at the time after buying the BARSUK years box set. Then it may have been The Postal Service "Give Up" and Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins "Rabbit Fur Coat" and Bright Eyes "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" and "Lifted..."

I didn't have a player at the time I just wanted it cause it was cool to have an enlarged version of all the artwork.

I started getting more active into buying and actually listening to them in 2012 when the 2nd press of SoCo LTTW dropped and Hot Topic's variant of Finch WIITB.

... And now I'm fucked. Haha

I will also add that Interpunk was the best for vinyl back in the mid 00s. Everything was dirt cheap and shipping to Canada was nothing!! If I could build a time machine I'd go back and grab that first press of FOB TTTYG they had on there!

Bought Departures’ When Losing Everything Is Everything You Wanted online accidentally, thinking it was a CD. When it arrived I liked holding bigger artwork and the variant was really cool so I decided it was time to start collecting

I think saosin’s s/t and/or finch’s what it is to burn were next thanks to a hot topic sale
